The Boeing Company is looking for a Flight Engineering Manager located in Ridley Park, PA.

The selected manager will lead and oversee a team of engineers, at both the Philadelphia and Mesa sites, supporting development (analysis, design, and test) activities in the areas of performance, aerodynamic design, sizing, propulsion, aerothermal analysis, wind tunnel and flight testing. The selected manager will have direct-reporting management responsibility for all Aerodynamics, Propulsion, and Acoustics engineers at the Philadelphia site, and manage all such engineers at the Mesa site in collaboration with their on-site-assigned Flight Technology manager.

This organization is responsible for all functionally aligned Statement of Work and assuring technical integrity on all Vertical Lift Division programs, including the CH-47 Chinook, V-22 Osprey, MH-139 Grey Wolf, AH-64 Apache, H-6 Little Bird, as well as all Phantom Works Advanced Vertical Lift (AVL) activities.   The organization supports various activities across the Boeing Enterprise such Commercial Aircraft, Fixed Wing Fighters, Satellites, Space Launch Systems, etc. as needed.

The candidate must also act as a technical leader to help develop solutions for the most complex aerodynamic designs and performance tasks for which existing methods and procedures may not apply.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Aerodynamics and Propulsion Technology team of the Boeing Vertical Lift Division, performing engineering and technical activities in the areas of rotorcraft performance, aerodynamic design, sizing, propulsion, aerothermal analysis, wind tunnel and flight testing.

  • Develop and execute integrated departmental plans, policies and procedures and provides input on departmental business and technical strategies, goals, objectives.

  • Acquire resources for department activities, provides technical management of suppliers and leads process improvements.

  • Develop and maintains relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners and direct reports.

  • Provide oversight and approval of technical approaches, products and processes.

  • Manage, develops and motivates employees.

Up to 10% travel is required; Domestically and/or Internationally depending on business needs.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret clearance post-start is required. 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in an Engineering or related technical field

  • 3+ years of experience leading engineering teams

  • 8+ years of experience in one or more of the following disciplines with the majority of that experience in rotorcraft applications: Flight Performance and Aerodynamics; Aerothermal Engineering, Propulsion or Acoustics

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience leading engineering teams

  • 15+ years of experience in one or more of the following disciplines with the majority of that experience in rotorcraft applications: Flight Performance and Aerodynamics; Aerothermal Engineering, Propulsion or Acoustics

  • Technical skills: Knowledge of rotorcraft flight performance including rotor performance, aircraft hover and cruise performance and determination of payload / range capability. Knowledge of flight mechanics including internal and external acoustics, propulsion and engine performance, classical rotor and airframe aerodynamics, computational fluid dynamics, and comprehensive rotor aerodynamics considering dynamic and interactional aerodynamic effects, and aerothermal analysis. Knowledge of preliminary design and sizing process for rotorcraft. Knowledge of wind tunnel and flight testing of rotorcraft.

  • Knowledge of applicable Military Specifications: Industry and Customer knowledge: Familiarity with rotorcraft industry including capabilities and products of our competitors; In depth knowledge of capabilities, practices and resources of US DoD engineering organizations such as NAVAIR, SRD and TDD in order to provide effective product support, resolve technical issues and capture R&D programs.

  • Project Management Skills: Knowledge of program management best practices; Knowledge of estimating and management tools including earned value reporting systems and risk management; Knowledge of proposal preparation processes.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. 

Typical summary pay range: $182,750 - $247,250
