The Boeing Defense, Space, and Security (BDS), Space, Intelligence & Weapon Systems (SI&WS) division, is seeking a Global Positioning System (GPS) Navigation Payload Systems Engineer (Level 2 or Level 3). This position will support the GPS sustainment program located at Schriever Space Force Base, about 10 miles east of Colorado Springs, CO. GPS is a satellite-based radio-navigation system owned by the United States government and operated by the United States Space Force. GPS is the U.S. Department of Defense’s largest military satellite constellation and is the world's only global utility. GPS provides position, navigation, and timing data to military and civilian users globally with countless applications and an unlimited number of users.

Boeing has over 45 years of history in GPS, including achieving full system capability in 1995. The current Boeing team supports the US Space Force by sustaining and monitoring the health and capabilities of the 12 GPS Block IIF satellites in the GPS constellation, launched from 2010 to 2016. The Boeing GPS sustainment team also provides support to its U.S. Space Force customer with reports and expertise on all aspects of the GPS system. Sustainment efforts will continue through the life of the Block IIF satellites, with a design life expectancy of 2031 and beyond. The program is currently operating under a 10-year sustainment contract, from 2022 to 2031.

The GPS Navigation Payload Systems Engineer will be a key member of a high-performing team engaged in critical projects related to the GPS IIF satellite constellation. As a member of our team, you will train to become a subject matter expert for the Navigation Payload on the GPS Block IIF satellites and for GPS performance trending and analysis.  The successful candidate will also work closely with the spacecraft bus and secondary payload subject matter experts.  This job also requires daily interaction with the U.S. Space Force’s 2d Navigation Warfare Squadron personnel performing commanding of the satellites and satellite performance trending and analysis.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provides real-time support to on-orbit GPS Navigation Payload and satellite operations, including investigation of and resolution of satellite anomalies.

  • Performs GPS Navigation Payload trending and analysis.

  • Maintains software scripts used for data parsing and trending analysis in C#, Python, Java, and Matlab

  • Applies an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop and verify basic lifecycle balanced system of systems and system solutions.

  • Evaluates customer/operational needs to define system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters, and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces.

  • Performs analyses to optimize total system of systems and/or system architecture.

  • Performs analyses for affordability, safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other specialties quality factors into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success.

  • Supports the planning, organization, implementation and monitoring of requirements management processes, tools, risk, issues, opportunity management and technology readiness assessment processes.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement

  • 2+ years of experience in systems engineering or a closely related field

  • 2+ years of experience in data analysis, trending, and reporting

  • 1+ years of experience programming in a high-level language such as C#, Python, Java, or MATLAB

  • 1+ years of experience working with relational database management systems

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • (Level 3): 5+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • 1+ years of experience with satellite operations

  • 1+ years of experience with the Global Positioning System

  • 1+ years of experience in telemetry analysis and trending

  • 1+ years of experience in anomaly resolution

  • 1+ years of experience in Kalman filter analysis

  • 1+ years of experience in Radio Frequency systems

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. 

Summary pay range for associate (level 2): $81,600 - $110,400

Summary pay range for mid-level (level 3): $97,750 - $132,250
