Boeing Defense, Space, and Security (BDS), seeks a seeks a Satellite Systems Engineer to serve as Global Positioning System (GPS) Satellite Bus Systems Engineer to join our Intelligence & Weapon Systems (SI&WS) division and support the GPS sustainment program located at Schriever Space Force Base, about 10 miles east of Colorado Springs.

GPS is a satellite-based radio-navigation system owned by the United States government and operated by the United States Space Force and is the world's first global utility.  GPS provides position, navigation, and timing (PNT) data to military and civilian users globally with countless applications and an unlimited number of users.

Boeing has over 45 years of history in GPS, including achieving full system capability in 1995.  The current Boeing team supports the US Space Force by sustaining and monitoring the health and capabilities of the 12 GPS Block IIF satellites in the GPS constellation, launched from 2010 to 2016. The Boeing GPS sustainment team also provides support to our U.S. Space Force customer with reports and expertise on all aspects of the GPS system.  Sustainment efforts will continue through the life of the Block IIF satellites, with a design life expectancy to 2031 and beyond.  The program currently operates under a 10-year sustainment contract, from 2022 to 2031.

As GPS Satellite Bus Systems Engineer, you will be a key member of a high-performing team engaged in critical projects related to the GPS IIF satellite constellation.  You will train to become a subject matter expert for satellite Bus subsystems on the GPS Block IIF satellites and for GPS performance trending and analysis.  You will also work closely with the spacecraft payload and secondary payload subject matter experts and interact daily with the U.S. Space Force’s 2 Navigation Warfare Squadron personnel commanding satellites and satellite performance trending and analysis.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provide real-time support to on-orbit GPS satellite operations, including investigation of and resolution of satellite anomalies.
  • Train to become a subsystem Subject Matter Expertise (SME) in assigned subsystems.
  • Interface with Operations Customer as subsystem SMEs.
  • Write technical reports.
  • Support and initiate process and documentation improvement
  • Support Spacecraft Command Processor and Mission Planning responsibilities.

This position requires an active (interim or final) secret or above U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship.

This position is expected to be fully onsite at Schriever SFB, CO and necessitates the ability to navigate the military base worksite where there are buildings without elevators and a long walk from the parking lot. 

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Years of related experience: 1+ for level 2, 3+ for level 3.
  • Systems engineering or related experience.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Systems engineering experience.
  • Satellite operations experience.
  • Global Positioning System (GPS) engineering experience.
  • telemetry analysis and trending experience.
  • Anomaly resolution experience.
  • Data analysis, trending, and reporting experience.

Typical Education & Experience:

Level 2: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), computer science, engineering data science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications. In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Level 3: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), computer science, engineering data science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications. In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Shift:

Ability and willingness to work occasional compensated onsite support outside of typical business hours.  Expect infrequent alternating 24/7 on-call responsibilities for satellite anomalies and operational events.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

Summary Pay Range:

Level 2: 91,800 to 124,200

Level 3: $112,200 – $151,800
