The Boeing Commercial Airplanes organization is currently seeking a 787 Deputy Fleet Chief – Lead Engineer in Customer Support in Seal Beach, California.

The Deputy Fleet Chief will support the Fleet Chief working in a matrix management organization to ensure safe and economic operation of the fleet; ensure that fleet-related (Airline) concerns are properly addressed; coordinate with management and others (inside and outside of the organization) regarding issues and concerns; represent and advocate for the airlines/customers at internal meetings; approve safety and major economic issues; approve plans and schedules and monitor timely resolution of in-service issues. 

This position is responsible for overseeing support activities for an assigned group of 787 commercial customers. Duties include hosting fleet team calls, meetings and overseeing implementation of activities to resolve fleet issues. As a part of the Customer Support Team, you will be expected to provide a superior customer experience, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year.

Position Responsibilities: 

  • Build and Maintain strong relationships with assigned airline customers and senior leaders
  • Advocate and develop solutions for assigned customer issues, concerns, and requirements with the Fleet Chief and other Boeing internal organizations (be the “voice of the customer”)
  • Lead development of material for Technical Review Meetings and Executive Review Meetings and represent Fleet Chief at these Customer focused meetings
  • Lead and chair fleet wide customer engagements such as Fleet IdeaXchange (FIX) calls and Working Together Team (WTT) meetings, including all preparation meetings to ensure the material is ready and the team successful
  • Provide technical oversight to Model-Specific Fleet Team Meeting; which will include developing solutions for items raised on the FIX bulletin board, providing leadership in Fleet Team meeting preparations, execution, and timely follow up of open items
  • As required, attend and chair the following boards and meetings: Design Office Reviews, Fleet Team Integration and Project Reviews, Engineering Investigation Board (EIB), and Safety Review Board (SRB)
  • Build and maintain good relationships with internal/external customers and suppliers (e.g. Supplier Management, Warranty, Fleet Support Engineering, Design Engineering and Material Management) and associated senior leaders
  • Respond quickly to meet significant customer needs and resolve complex problems requiring ingenuity and creativity; communicate with technical personnel from multiple skill areas and functions to evaluate technical information and issues
  • Maintain complete awareness of fleet, industry and regulatory issues
  • Assist and represent the Fleet Chief in conducting executive and technical review meetings and regional technical conferences as required
  • International and/or domestic travel is necessary.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work on-site at one of the listed location options.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
  • 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3+ years’ Experience leading efforts to resolve technical issues.
  • 1+ years’ experience working with airline customers.
  • Must be willing to support a 24/7/365 environment.
  • Able to travel domestically and internationally up to 15% of the time

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working in Customer Support.
  • Experience working with Suppliers.
  • Experience leading cross functional teams or projects.
  • Experience providing briefings to senior and/or executive level management.
  • Experience working with organizational leaders to develop & implement plans & objectives to meet requirements.
  • Experience in creating reports for management reviews & track performance to plan.
  • Successful candidates for this job must satisfy the Company’s Conflict of Interest (COI) assessment process.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.  

Summary Pay Range (Level 4): $146,200 - $197,800
Summary Pay Range (Level 5): $176,800 - $239,200
