Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA), Customer Support, is seeking an Associate Mechanical Design Engineer to join the Ground Support Equipment team in Seal Beach, CA. In this role, the candidate will help design and modify ground support equipment and tooling used to maintain, service, and overhaul a vast array of Boeing airplanes.

The candidate will address and resolve issues encountered during manufacturing, as well as customer concerns related to the usage of ground support equipment. They will coordinate with other engineering and technical disciplines to address these concerns and assist in the development and documentation of basic requirements through drawings, data sets, reports, specifications, and supporting data.

Additionally, the candidate will develop or modify basic designs based on defined requirements and occasionally perform tests to verify operational and functional requirements. They will assist in monitoring licensee performance to ensure compliance with requirements and support the resolution of product integration issues and manufacturing anomalies. The candidate will also research basic technologies for potential application to company business needs and collaborate with other members of project or program teams, management, and technical staff to define and implement engineering solutions that meet group, organization, and company objectives.

In this position, the candidate will play an integral role in supporting all Boeing Commercial Airplane models in service and development, including programs such as the 747, 767, 777, 787, 737NG, 737MAX, 777X, and the next generation of commercial airplanes.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provides technical, design, and informational support for basic manufacturing, product support, or in-service issues.

  • Supports analysis, definition and verification of basic requirements. May modify basic requirements based on defined requirements using approved processes and tools.

  • Supports and/or creates and provides basic technical documentation (e.g. drawings, specifications, design folders, tool change bulletins) in accordance with engineering processes and procedures for internal reference or external delivery.

  • Assists with the study and assessment of technology development by gathering data, supporting testing and documenting findings.

  • Supports review of technical design, analysis, and manufacturing by reviewing documentation, participating in design reviews, and observing tests and audits to ensure compliance.

  • Assists with the investigation of problems to provide engineering design disposition of discrepancies.

  • Supports research of technical, operational and quality issues that cannot be resolved by the customer.

  • Assists in designing and/or providing analysis of interim and final engineering solutions to make ground support equipment serviceable.

  • Works with cross-functional teams to conduct root cause analysis and develop dispositions for design non-conformances.

  • Assists in the development of customer correspondence for continued safe operation and maintenance of equipment.

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally, with travel not exceeding 10%.

Work Authorization Statement: 

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at our Seal Beach, CA location.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus on Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace Aeronautical or Material Sciences). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

  • 2 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • 2 or more years’ of experience with Design Standards and Practices.

  • 2 or more years’ of experience with Computer Aided Design (CAD).

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Working knowledge of Computer-Aided Three-Dimensional Interactive Application (CATIA).

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

  • Experience collaborating with multiple team functions.

  • Experience with customer support.

  • Willingness to expand into technical areas without prior experience.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. 

Summary Pay Range:

  • Associate (Level 2): $99,950 - $123,050
