The Boeing Companyis currently seekingSoftware Engineers–Developersto support ourExperimental Systems Group (ESG) Telemetry & Command DatabaseteamlocatedinSeal Beach, California.This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) Software Engineering organization.

This role is ideal for software engineers who enjoy working close to the hardware and mission operations, care about data correctness and performance, and want to grow into a domain expert in spacecraft/flight test telemetry and command systems.

Theidealcandidatewill develop, extend, and maintain telemetry and command database schemas, dictionaries, and associated tooling for integration, test, and operations environments; implement services and scripts to ingest, transform, validate, and distribute telemetry/telecommand definitions; collaborate with systems and flight software engineers to translate interface control documents (ICDs) into robust data models with clear naming, units, limits, calibrations, and meta-data; write unit/integration tests and data validation checks; contribute to CI/CD pipelines, code reviews, and documentation; and build APIs and automation to ensure consistent propagation of data definitions across environments (development, integration, lab, and operational).

Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including Associate, and Experienced Level Software Engineers.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Supports the design, development, testing, and maintenance of non-embedded, data-centric software across the full lifecycle, ensuring data integrity, performance, security, and compliance with industry, customer, safety, and regulatory standards.

  • Assistswith review, analysis, and translation of customer requirements into data models and application designs, including schema definitions, relationships, constraints, and data access patterns (e.g., SQL, ORM mappings, APIs).

  • Supports development, maintenance, enhancement, and optimization of features that read, write, transform, and present data from databases, including batch and real-time data flows, reporting endpoints, and integration with external systems.

  • Supports development, documentation, and maintenance of data-aware architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces, and designs, covering schemas, query contracts, caching strategies, pagination, and transactional behavior.

  • Supports debugging and resolution of data-related issues to ensure reliability and efficiency, including query optimization, indexing, deadlock mitigation, data quality and consistency checks, and remediation of failed jobs or migrations.

  • Participates in handling user inquiries, troubleshooting data access and performance issues, and analyzing feedback to improve data usability, correctness, and responsiveness in reports, dashboards, and APIs.

  • Supports implementation of current and emerging data technologies, tools, and frameworks relevant to application development (e.g., relational and NoSQL databases, ORMs, CDC/streaming, ETL/ELT tooling), as well as changes in data governance and security regulations.

  • Supports execution and documentation of software R&D initiatives focused on data, including prototypes for new data models, migration strategies, indexing approaches, caching layers, and observability for data-intensive features.

  • Supports development, establishment, monitoring, and improvement of software and data processes, tooling, and key performance metrics (e.g., query latency, throughput, error rates, data freshness, and consistency) to align projects with organizational goals and industry benchmarks.

BasicQualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

  • 2+ years of experience in software development using either Java, C++, or Python

  • 2+ years of experience in Windows and Linux (RedHat 8) development environment

  • 2+ years of experience in design and maintenance of relational databases (SQL Server or Oracle or Postgres)

  • 2+ years of experience in Agile development practices and Agile software suite (Confluence, Jira,BitBucket)

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.

  • Level 2: 1 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Level 3: 3 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Knowledge of specification format requirements, guidelines, and change control processes. Understanding of relationship between specifications/standards andaircraft/product certification systems.

  • Knowledge of host environments, including processors, operatingsystemsand networks. Ability to build, integrate and troubleshoot software components.

  • Knowledge of software programming languages and databases and the ability to apply to the software domain. Programming languages encompass higher order languages, auto-codedlanguagesand assembly languages.

  • Knowledge of how to derive andallocaterequirements (e.g., system, sub-system, software) and show traceability throughout the product lifecycle.

  • Knowledge of software architecture and design methodologies. Ability to synthesize software architectures and designs that meet requirements,characteristicsand constraints.

  • Knowledge of software development processes in compliance with established internal and industry standards, guidelines, and best practices in the development, testing, and deployment of software.

  • Knowledge of general and software development and testing tools,capabilityand usage. Examples include compilers, linkers, debuggers, data analysis tools, graphical user interface builders, post processing tools, requirements management tools, and web authoring tools.

  • Knowledge of domains, characteristics,constraintsand products that require software and influence architecture, requirements, interfaces, designs, and integration/test approaches. Domain examples include data processing, ground support,toolsand analysis models. Examples of characteristics and constraints thatimpactsoftware include operating systems,fidelityand information processing capacity. Examples of products includeaircraft, missiles, airborne/shipboard/space systems/ground-based support systems.

  • Knowledge of supplier assessment processes including Preferred Supplier Certification and Work Transfer Process. Elements of assessment to include supplier's past performance, business processes, capacity plan, statement of work evaluation, risk mitigation plan,capabilitiesand lean practicesin order torate supplier viability to support the Boeing company's goals andobjectives. Ability to control and deliver project deliverables, project accounting and appraisal, andoptimizethe contribution of the people involved using project management tools.

  • Knowledge of implementation, validation, and verification processes, practices, and guidelines to ensure software development quality, performance, and safety.

Summary payrange :$106,250 -$182,850
