Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) is seeking an Advanced Information Technologist – Data Engineer to join our growing Data Analytics Engineering & Integration team in Ridley Park, PA; Seattle, WA; Arlington, VA; San Diego CA; Long Beach CA; Mesa AZ; or Hazelwood, MO. Our team is tasked with transforming the way BDS data is sourced, managed, and utilized to unlock insights to drive business growth and optimization. The team supports data needs for internal stakeholders across BDS business programs and functions and is tasked with utilizing data to inform and improve the full lifecycle of BDS products.

Role summary:

As an Advanced Information Technologist – Data Engineer, you will be a thought leader in how to design, implement, manage, and scale data pipelines in support of the BDS Data Analytics Platform leveraging modern cloud architecture design, hybrid cloud technologies, data migration technologies, and others. You will be responsible for crafting data pipelines and deploying them in a cloud infrastructure.

This role requires a resourceful, self-driven, outcome-oriented individual with meticulous attention to detail and the ability to partner, execute, and communicate skillfully while solving complex problems in dynamic environments. The ideal candidate will have experience with large-scale data platforms, cloud computing, hybrid clouds, software development, and requirements management.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Participates in all aspects of agile software development, including design, implementation, and deployment.

  • Design, develop, and deploy modular data pipelines.

  • Develop and maintain cloud software and solutions in accordance with best practices.

  • Ensure efficient functioning of data storage and process functions in accordance with company security policies and best practices in cloud security.

  • Regularly review existing systems and make recommendations for improvements.

  • Interact with clients, provide cloud support, and make recommendations based on client needs.

  • Collaborate with data architects to define and implement data ontologies and canonical data models that enable consistent semantics and discoverability across BDS datasets.

  • Design, deploy, and maintain data integrations and pipeline patterns within enterprise data platforms (e.g., Palantir Foundry) where applicable, including dataset modeling and operationalization.

Work arrangement and clearance

  • This position is hybrid. The selected candidate will be required to perform 1 day per week onsite at one of the listed location options. This requirement is at the hiring team’s discretion and could change in the future.

  • This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)

  • 3+ years of experience in data engineering, building pipelines in AWS Glue or relational databases.

  • 2+ years experience with version control, GitLab, CI/CD pipelines, and containerization tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).

  • 3+ years experience with Spark and other big data processing frameworks.

  • Proficiency in languages such as Python and SQL.

  • Experience with relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, Aurora).

  • Experience of ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes and tools like Informatica or AWS Glue.

  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code and tools such as Terraform.

  • Experience translating business requirements into technical specifications.

  • Experience with cross-functional collaboration.

  • Technical Bachelor’s degree.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)

  • Highly preferred: Hands-on experience with Palantir Foundry, including dataset design, Foundry Ontology, Transforms, Code Repositories, and operational pipeline operationalization.

  • Highly preferred: Practical experience designing and implementing data ontologies, canonical data models, semantic layers, or knowledge graphs to improve enterprise data governance, discoverability, and cross-domain integration.

  • Preferred: Experience with AWS GovCloud.

  • Preferred: Experience in the aviation industry or other regulated industries.

  • Preferred: Experience of working within a multinational matrix management environment / structure and a large-scale, sophisticated international organization.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

Summary Pay Range:

$85,000-$123,050
