Boeing AvionX is seeking a highly motivated Manufacturing Engineer to join our team at our new Production and Test facility in Smithfield, PA. to support AvionX work across all business units (BDS, BCA & BGS)

Boeing AvionX develops and produces avionics and electronics systems designed for use on aircraft and other platforms for purposes such as navigation, flight controls, information systems, and other core avionics functions.  We have set our sights high – to design, develop, and manufacture the most technically advanced and reliable avionic components in the world. We are innovating and developing new products to address the future of the urban air mobility as well as our next generation of commercial, tactical, and trainer aircraft markets, weapons and others.

The successful candidate will develop and validate manufacturing processes, support production ramp-up, lead root-cause investigations, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. The position requires experience with process development, production readiness, tooling/fixture requirements, FAI, and collaboration with design, quality, and production teams; plus ensure production meets quality, schedule, and cost targets with minimal oversight.

Position Responsibilities

  • Lead development, validation, and optimization of manufacturing processes, assembly procedures, and work instructions

  • Own production readiness and ramp-up plans; coordinate resources to meet capability, capacity, and schedule targets

  • Lead root-cause analysis for complex manufacturing issues and define robust corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs)

  • Direct tooling, fixture, and equipment specification, procurement, installation, validation, and qualification

  • Lead or facilitate FMEA/PFMEA, control plans, and risk mitigation strategies

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, and other methods to improve yield, throughput, and reduce cost

  • Review of design models and drawings, creating/reviewing redlines and coordinating with design to incorporate updates

  • Support the Authorship of manufacturing plans with the various programs to facilitate build

  • Oversee process qualification activities including First Article Inspection (FAI) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) or program-equivalent

  • Provide data-driven analysis and reporting on key manufacturing metrics (yield, cycle time, scrap, throughput)

  • Procurement of parts/material to support Avionic production, coordination with supplier management

  • Close coordination with: AvionX Engineering teams, Lab engineers and technicians, program engineers, Boeing customers, fabrication technicians and support personnel (material management), electrical and mechanical designers across AvionX and Enterprise

  • Collaborate closely with design engineering to ensure Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and support design changes with manufacturing impact assessment

  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards and support audits and inspections

  • Represent manufacturing engineering in program reviews, configuration meetings, and supplier engagements as required

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher

  •  3+ years of experience with project management

  • 3+ years of experience with developing and executing operating rhythms, integrated program schedules, project plans, and/or metrics

  •  3+ years of experience providing process improvements and integration strategies

  •  3+ years of experience in developing and maintaining relationships/partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners, and cross-functional teams

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, with 4-6 years minimum of relevant engineering experience required

  • Experience developing and optimizing efficient manufacturing plans

  •  Experience generating/approving work instructions, work orders, planning documents

  •  Oversight, and management responsibility (including performance mgmt. & reporting) for a portfolio of small to medium size projects in support of AvionX goals and objectives

  •  Ensures assigned individuals are executing the identified and assigned tasks and providing appropriate tracking and reporting per plan

  •  Provides in-depth analysis of project culminating with lessons learned and historical reports for incorporation into future project plans

  • Develops solutions to complex problems that require ingenuity and innovation

  • Active Secret DoD clearance a plus (ability to get a clearance)

  • Experience with Team Center/Unigraphics and 3DX

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. 

Summary Pay Range Mid-Level: $104,700 - $140,300
