The Boeing Company is currently seeking an Experienced Software Engineer to support our Space Launch System (SLS) Exploration Upper Stage (EUS)-SC Operating Systems and Security team in Titusville, Florida. This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) Software Engineering organization. 

Our team designs, develops, and maintains the software and hardware that control the EUS, including engine ignition and cutoff sequences, thrust vector control, and other critical flight functions. They secure the EUS operating systems against cyber threats and other disruptions and work closely with NASA’s Mission Control Center to monitor vehicle health and respond to technical issues before and during missions. The team also advances the EUS’s systems to meet requirements for future deep-space missions, such as launching large telescopes and other scientific instruments. 

This position configures the operating systems, integrates applications and manages the security posture of the computer labs at multiple sites for engineering software development, integration and testing of the Stage Controller software for the new Exploration Upper Stage component (EUS) of the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket on the NASA Artemis program.  The stage controller will be used to control the rocket during a ground test of the SLS rocket motors.  This position requires access to NASA facilities and will require a thorough background check.  

Position Responsibilities: 

  • Partners with stakeholders to identify and review product security requirements. 

  • Conducts performance analysis, testing, monitoring and software assessments of networking protocol software to assess, identify and address risks, weaknesses and vulnerabilities. 

  • Provides input on secure network and protocols throughout the end-to-end lifecycle development of software products. 

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience): 

  • 5 years of experience in Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems. 

  • 5 years of experience in Jira, GitLab, Confluence, Artifactory, Ansible, Python and other scripting languages 

  • 5 years of experience in RISCS (NASA risk management software), DOORS (Requirements Management), Microsoft Office 

  • 5 years of experience in Network architecture, configuration and support 

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience): 

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science 

  • Ability to identify susceptibility, survivability, and vulnerability (S/V) of the systems, subsystems and delivery mechanisms, based on the knowledge of characteristics and capabilities of threats (e.g. protocol exploits, identity spoofing, malware injection techniques, application layer vulnerabilities). 

  • Knowledge of programming languages used for networking problems.

  • Knowledge of computing equipment and multiple operating systems.

  • Knowledge of communications, networking protocols.

  • Knowledge of software development and testing tools capability and usage.

  • Ability to integrate hardware and software components into a functional system. 

  • Knowledge of how to derive and allocate requirements (e.g., system, sub-system, software) and show traceability throughout the product lifecycle. 

Travel: 

Occasional travel may be required (less than 10%)

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.   

Summary pay range for Experienced Level: $107,100 - $144,900
