The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) Space, Intelligence & Weapons Systems (SI&WS) has an exciting opportunity for an innovative, highly-motivated, people-focused, and growth-motivated Fluids Systems and Ground Support Engineering Manager to join our Experimental Systems Group (ESG) at Kennedy Space Center, FL

ESG supports a variety of government customers spanning technology domains and is a fast-paced, responsive development environment delivering new capabilities to customers rapidly and affordably. The ESG portfolio consists of a range of platforms and technologies that includes the X-37B, the world’s first fully autonomous reusable spaceplane, which recently landed from its seventh and most ambitious flight yet. 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Direct management of employees performing engineering and technical activities in the areas of fluid systems operations, tooling design, and ground support equipment engineering functions.
  • Define, staff, develop, and sustain the ESG operational fluids capability at Kennedy Space Center; build the operational propulsion, thermal fluids, and landing gear engineering team, defining the personnel requirement, systems procedures, personnel training, and maintaining certifications.
  • Lead the development and maintenance of common processes, tools, and standards and implement Boeing best practices from across the company.
  • Build a culture of technical excellence and first-time quality and use metrics to set and meet goals.
  • Provide oversight of technical design reviews and trade studies to ensure products meet performance, safety, producibility, ergonomic, maintainability, and reliability requirements and factors.
  • Drive continuous improvement culture and lead process improvements and Lean+ projects.
  • Partner closely with site ESG Program Management and other leaders to ensure executability of new changes and proposals.
  • Drive performance to plan for ESG engineering products as Control Account Manager (CAM) and supports the ESG Program Integrated Product Teams (IPTs).
  • Develop and maintain relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners, and direct reports.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science from an accredited course of study, in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), computer science, data science, mathematics, physics, chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement.
  • 5+ years of engineering experience.
  • 3+ years of Aerospace Engineering experience.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience defining and building a new engineering team.
  • Experience as a spacecraft operational propulsion engineer inclusive of fueling and decontamination of spacecraft propulsion systems.
  • Experience as a lead engineer.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams in a collaborative, respectful, and innovative environment taking steps to improve the value stream.
  • Experience as a cost account manager (CAM).
  • MRB certification and/or an understanding of non-conforming product review procedures.
  • Experience with production systems such as Manufacturing Execution System (MES), Teamcenter Product Data Management (PDM), and Unigraphics (UG).
  • Excellent communications skills, verbal and written.
  • Ability to effectively communicate at all levels of management, customers, and partners.
  • Master of Science in an engineering discipline.
  • Previous management experience. 
  • Ability to build a safe environment of inclusion, transparency, and trust.
  • Leadership skills to lead and influence positive outcomes.
  • Previous experience in leading, mentoring, and engaging individuals and teams.
  • Experience providing active mentorship and career guidance.
  • Can up-level existing team by hiring high performance talent, growing leaders and helping underperforming members.
  • Can gain trust of team and provide guidance for their careers.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. 

Summary pay range: $129,200 - $174,800
