Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is seeking a results-driven and experienced Manager, Core Stage Launch Engineering to lead our Launch Engineering team supporting the Space Launch System (SLS) program at Kennedy Space Center, Florida. The Manager will take ownership of the launch engineering team that supports the Core Stage launch operations, drives launch readiness and ensures Boeing’s technical and contractual responsibilities are met with the highest standards of safety and quality.

This position requires shift flexibility required to support operations including first/second shifts, overnights, weekends, and rotations to support round-the-clock campaign activities.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and day-to-day management for the Core Stage Launch Engineering team, including hiring, performance management, mentoring, and professional development.

  • Drive planning and execution for Core Stage Launch Engineering deliverables; ensure engineering work products, schedules, and milestones meet program objectives and customer commitments.

  • Oversee development, review, and release of operational requirements, launch commit criteria, and Work Authorization Documents (WADs). Ensure Boeing and NASA customer requirements are captured accurately.

  • Responsible for onsite ship-side support during vehicle processing and launch operations; provide ship-side escalation support and decision-making as required; ensure prompt resolution of ship-side issues and nonconformances.

  • Responsible for providing onsite integrated test and checkout support during vehicle test operations.

  • Responsible for ensuring readiness of Day of Launch personnel; trained per NASA customer console requirements

  • Collaborate with cross-functional Boeing and NASA leadership to define strategy, resolve complex technical and operational issues, and maintain launch cadence and readiness.

  • Establish and enforce engineering and quality rigor, safety requirements, and configuration management across launch processing activities.

  • Manage team resources, staffing plans, budgets, and contractor interfaces to meet schedule and performance targets.

  • Promote continuous improvement using Lean and best-practice methods; identify risks and lead mitigation plans.

  • Communicate status, risks, and recommendations to program leadership, customer counterparts, and senior stakeholders; prepare and present executive briefings.

  • Ensure integration with subject matter experts across avionics, structures, propulsion, manufacturing, and test organizations to support rapid technical analyses and nonconformance dispositioning.

  • Foster an inclusive, high-performance team culture that values safety, accountability, clear communication, and mission success.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement

  • 7+ years of relevant engineering experience supporting complex systems or launch/flight hardware processing

  • 3+ years of experience leading teams in a formal and/or informal role

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Direct experience in launch vehicle processing, core stage/large launch systems, or aerospace manufacturing/operations

  • Familiarity with NASA processes and customer expectations

  • Experience and knowledge of Boeing Production System / Lean methodologies

  • Strong program management skills: risk management, schedule development, resource planning, and budget awareness

  • Proven track record resolving complex technical issues under schedule and safety constraints

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated experience presenting to executive audiences

  • Experience managing support teams and/or multi-organizational teams

  • Proactive problem-solver who mentors and develops technical talent and fosters collaboration across functional teams

NASA Site Access:

This position requires the ability to obtain access to a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) facility.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. 

Summary pay range: $170,000 - $230,000
