The Opportunity

Launch a high-impact technical career working on one of the world's most advanced attack helicopters. We're recruiting Apprentice Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (Avionics) to support the AH-64E Apache and CH-47 Chinook programs. This is hands-on, fast paced trade training with real career progression and a chance to contribute to Australia's rotary‑wing capability.

As an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (Avionics), you will help maintain the aircraft's electrical and electronic systems that allow it to fly, navigate, communicate, and fight. Avionics is part electrician, part technology specialist, and part problem-solver. Every day is different - you could be testing equipment, finding faults, replacing components, or preparing helicopters for their next mission.

Why this role is exciting

  • Real apprenticeship pathway combining on‑the‑job experience with structured trade training and a Diploma in Aeroskills - Avionics delivered by Aviation Australia.
  • Working for Boeing Defence Australia means you'll be part of a professional team supporting one of the world's most advanced attack helicopters while learning valuable technical skills that can lead to a long-term career in aviation and engineering.
  • Work on next‑generation rotary‑wing platforms and supporting systems (non-sensitive, publicly acknowledged equipment).
  • Be part of a safety-first, high-performing maintenance team that directly supports Defence operations.
  • Live and work in vibrant Townsville — great lifestyle, community and outdoor living.

If you enjoy technology, hands-on work and solving practical problems, an avionics apprenticeship offers an exciting pathway into a high-tech industry.

  • Report to the Maintenance Operations Manager and contribute as a valued team member.

Who we're looking for

  • Keen interest in aircraft, electronics, aviation maintenance or engineering.
  • Minimum Year 12 (or equivalent) desirable; strong results in maths, physics, technical drawing or IT advantageous.
  • Ability to attend training in Townsville and pass examinations to a 75% level for a Military Aircraft Maintenance Licence (MAML).
  • Ability and willingness to study. First 11 months of training is majority theory based and requires facilitated learning as well as self-study to be successful.
  • Mechanical aptitude, willingness to learn and work in a disciplined, collaborative team.
