The Boeing Company is currently seeking an Mid-Level Composites Manufacturing Engineer to support our BTI Advanced Production & Automation (APA) team located in Tukwila, WA.

The Boeing Company is looking for a Mid-level Composites Fabrication Manufacturing Engineer to join the BTI Advanced Production & Automation (APA) team in Tukwila, WA. APA is a research and development organization focused on developing and production-hardening new automated manufacturing technologies for the fabrication and assembly of aircraft parts. This team begins with ideas and through hands on experiments, tests, and demonstrations develops these concepts into implementable equipment and processing solutions that support multiple programs across Boeing’s platforms. In our state-of-the-art composites fabrication and robotic automation labs, our engineers and technical analysts lead and execute a variety of composites materials & fabrication development projects to transform ideas into reality. We work closely with the BTI Materials & Structures, BCA Product Development, and BCA Airplane Program teams to identify, develop and transition technology needs to Boeing products.

As a Manufacturing Engineer in APA, you will work independently and collaborate with experienced peers to create requirements for the fabrication, assembly and test of structural components to support the development of new production systems. You will work with our MP&P teams to transition new fabrication and assembly technologies into manufacturing demonstrations and test builds. The chosen candidate will be motivated, self-driven and will have excellent written and verbal communication skills. We are a collaborative team, and you will work with cross functional teammates including MP&P Engineers, IT and Software engineers, Design & Structural Engineers, Quality Engineers & Inspectors, Test Engineers & Operators, Assembly mechanics, and support teams; a collaborative attitude and the willingness to work together are vital to our team’s success. A successful candidate in this role will have passion, creativity, and a strong desire for process improvement and efficiency. The ideal candidate will be a champion for transitioning Boeing’s future digital thread through implementation in build demonstrations. They will also have a strong desire to be out on the production/laboratory floor leading and providing hands on support to the manufacturing tasks. With our variety of work, you won’t be bored!

Position Responsibilities Include

  • Develops and implements production and tooling methodologies.
  • Participates in Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) to integrate technical solutions across multiple disciplines.
  • Develops, identifies and implements conceptual designs and maintains the program architecture for build.
  • Leads and implements manufacturing plans.
  • Conducts producibility and variation analyses to ensure that manufacturing process capability matches requirements.
  • Assists in providing producibility information for inclusion in project plans and helps document producibility best practices.
  • Analyzes design/build concepts to evaluate producible design/build definitions.
  • Resolves technical problems of significant impact to performance, cost or schedule.
  • Coordinates and implements new engineering principles, theories, advanced technologies and concepts.
  • Validates and ensures production readiness of solutions to complex problems.
  • Implements lean principles and technologies

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (including manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science  
  • 3+ years of experience in manufacturing or production engineering role
  • 1+ years of experience in assembly or mechanical work
  • 1+ years of experience in composites fabrication and assembly work

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)

  • 3+ years of experience in a composites manufacturing production environment
  • Experience in multiple MES and QMS systems
  • Experience with performing developmental work in production representative systems
  • Strong experience in composites fabrication (layup, cure, bonding, trim/drill) and assembly (shim, fit up, fastening) operations
  • Familiarity with AS9100, NASA, AIAA, and other Aerospace standards
  • Experience in hands on troubleshooting & resolving process and/or test and/or software issues
  • Experience in multiple PDM and MES systems: (i.e. Dassault 3DX or CATIA V5, Siemens Team Center & Prime-R, MeSci, CMES, etc)

Summary Pay Range: $105,400 - $142, 600
