Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Software Engineer – Developer to join the KC-46 team in Tukwila, WA.

In this role, the individual will lead and directly contribute to all phases of software development for Mission Systems and Aerial Refueling Software with a focus on leadership, quality, process improvement, tool improvement and automation.

We are seeking a leader that is passionate about aerospace and excited to work in a multi-disciplined, collaborative engineering environment that supports the design, development, and implementation of software for existing and emerging government and international programs.

This exciting position requires demonstrated experience as a Software engineer, knowledge of the full software development life cycle (requirements, design, code, test and certification), ability to lead a team, and the clear exhibition of superior judgment and decision making to engineer new solutions and support existing capabilities for multiple programs and customers.  Demonstrated critical thinking and troubleshooting skills are required.

The Boeing KC-46 “Pegasus” is the new US Air Force aerial refueling tanker aircraft designed to support multi-role missions including refueling, cargo/passenger transport, and medevac airlift. The KC-46 is a military commercial derivative aircraft based on the Boeing 767-2C aircraft and modified per US Air Force specifications for the primary mission of aerial refueling US and Allied aircraft.  The KC-46 is equipped with self-protection, defensive and communication systems making it more survivable in a contested environment.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the design, development, test, and maintenance of non-embedded software throughout the end-to-end lifecycle that meets industry, customer, safety, and regulation standards

  • Oversees the review, analysis, and translation of customer requirements into initial design of software products. Reviews the development, maintenance, enhancement and optimization of software products and functionalities for systems integrations

  • Oversees development, documentation and maintenance of architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces and designs for software products

  • Oversees debugging and resolution of issues identified to ensure the reliability and efficiency of software products

  • Oversees handling of user inquiries, troubleshooting technical issues and user feedback analysis

  • Oversees research and implementation of current and emerging technologies, tools, frameworks and changes in regulations relevant to software development

  • Leads development, establishment, monitoring and improvement of software processes, tools and key performance metrics that align projects with organizational goals and industry benchmarks

  • Reviews planning, execution and documentation of software research and development projects

  • Consults on software domains, system-specific issues, processes and regulations. Oversees software project management activities and software supplier management functions

  • Oversees tracking and evaluation of software team and supplier performance to ensure product and process compliance to project plans and industry standards

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Secret Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim U.S. Secret Clearance Pre-Start and final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

  • 10+ years’ experience programming with C, C++, or Ada

  • 10+ years’ experience with software development on Windows or Linux

  • 10+ years’ experience leading software development projects

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science and 14+ years of related work experience OR Bachelor’s Degree and 18+ years of directly related work experience OR 22+ years of related, relevant experience

  • Experience with scripting languages such as XML, Perl, and Python

  • Knowledge of Agile software development processes

  • Experience with use case development

Position may require travel up to 10% of the time.

Summary Pay Range: USD $ 211,650 - $286,350
