The Boeing Company is looking for a Senior Software Engineer - Test & Verification to join the KC-46 team located in Tukwila, Washington. This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) Software Engineering organization.

The Boeing KC-46 “Pegasus” is the new US Air Force aerial refueling tanker aircraft designed to support multi-role missions including refueling, cargo/passenger transport, and medevac airlift. The KC-46 is a military commercial derivative aircraft based on the Boeing 767-2C aircraft and modified per US Air Force specifications for the primary mission of aerial refueling US and Allied aircraft.  The KC-46 is equipped with self-protection, defensive and communication systems making it more survivable in a contested environment.

In this role, the individual will lead a team of Software Test engineers in software/hardware integration testing and formal qualification test (FQT) of Aerial Refueling and Mission System Software with a focus on leadership, quality, process improvement, tool improvement and test automation.

This person needs to be a leader that is passionate about aerospace and excited to work in a multi-disciplined, collaborative engineering environment that supports the design, development, and implementation of software for existing and emerging government and international programs.

This exciting position requires demonstrated experience as a Software Test engineer, knowledge of the full software development life cycle (requirements, design, code, test and certification), ability to lead a team, and the clear exhibition of superior judgment and decision making to engineer new solutions and support existing capabilities for multiple programs and customers.  Demonstrated critical thinking and troubleshooting skills are required.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Leads the design, development, and completion of test and verification of software products to ensure quality, reliability, and functionality

  • Partners with stakeholders and leads the review and identification of software requirements, test objectives, test strategies, and testability

  • Leads the design of test plans, cases, and scenarios to meet software requirements and specifications

  • Advises on the set up and configuration of test environments, including hardware, software, and network configurations to replicate production environments

  • Leads executing test cases and scenarios to verify functionality, performance, and safety of software systems, identifying and reporting defects, issues, and potential vulnerabilities found during testing processes

  • Advises on test results and feedback on software design and functionality to resolve defects, issues, and potential vulnerabilities

  • Leads creating, documenting, and maintaining test plans, procedures, cases, artifacts, metrics, and data in accordance with data privacy and security protocols and standards

  • Leads developing and maintaining automated test scripts and frameworks to improve efficiency and effectiveness of testing processes

  • Leads software project management functions across test and verification activities involving multifunctional teams

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

Security Clearance and Export Control Requirements:

This position requires the ability to obtain a Secret U.S. Security Clearance for which the US Government requires U.S. Citizenship.  Ability to obtain Secret U.S. Security clearance (Post-Start).

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

  • 5+ years of experience designing test setups, writing test procedures, writing software for control and data acquisition systems, and conducting tests

  • 5+ years of experience with C, C++, C#, Java, or Ada

  • Experience with Linux based operating systems

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science

  • Experience with test requirements from supporting documentation, test plans, internal and external customers.

  • Experience in domestic and international regulations (e.g. FAA or DOD regulations) on the certification of test articles/vehicles to assure compliance of design

  • Experience with verification, validation, certification and qualification processes and procedures, including knowledge of governing regulations and compliance requirements.

  • Experience with assessing and documenting test or analysis data to show compliance

  • Experience with appropriate customer or governmental regulations relevant to design, test, and certification (e.g., DO-178B/C)

  • Experience with specification format requirements, guidelines, and change control processes

  • Experience in various engineering disciplines such as electrical, mechanical, and systems

  • The ability to communicate with technical personnel from multiple skill areas and functions to evaluate technical information and issues impacting design, production, and support of products, services, or other deliverables

  • Experience in deriving and allocating requirements (e.g., system, sub-system, software) and show traceability throughout the product lifecycle

  • Experience in designing and developing automation of software tests including GUI test automation, execute automated tests, track results, manage test data, and utilize results to improve software quality

  • Experience with software practices (e.g., configuration control, change management, problem reporting, software design, peer review, testing, and T&E specific practices), programming languages, operating systems and computing technology applicable to laboratory and flight test systems, including real-time, non-real-time, network-centric, monitoring and control applications

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. 

Summary pay range: $112,200 - $151,800.
