The Boeing Company is looking for creative Test & Evaluation Hardware Design Engineers to join its Boeing Test & Evaluation Propulsion, Vibration, and Noise (PVN) Experimental Hardware Design team in Tukwila, WA.

The PVN engineering team works on a wide variety of interesting projects that shape the future of flight. We contribute to the entire life cycle of our testing projects from project development to hardware design to fabrication and testing liaison (i.e. “cradle to grave”). Our design team takes pride in its ability to quicky develop high quality design solutions to support challenging test requirements.

Boeing Test & Evaluation’s (BT&E) PVN Laboratories are located at Boeing Field in Tukwila. The design engineering position primarily supports first shift with occasional travel and evenings as required to support special projects.

Attributes of a good experimental hardware design engineer:

PVN engineers are called upon to find creative solutions for many unique problems. This requires self-motivated individuals who can independently investigate and present solutions to complex problems. Clear communication and adherence to group processes are critical to successful collaboration with the design, test, and other stakeholder teams.

BT&E is currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including Associate, Experienced, or Senior level Test & Evaluation Hardware Design Engineers.

Position Responsibilities Include:

  • Use CATIA V5 to create CAD models and 2D drawings of detail parts, assemblies, and test installations

  • Responsible for fit, form, and function of test hardware

  • Manage budget, schedules, and procurement on small projects

  • Work with a team of design engineers on large projects

  • Basic stress analysis using hand calculations, spreadsheets, and finite element tools; coordination with stress analysis group for complex analyses

  • Coordinate with manufacturing teams on the planning and scheduling of fabrication and assembly activities

  • Provide engineering liaison support to shop personnel during the fabrication and assembly of test hardware

  • Support occasional off-site assembly and testing

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science  

  • 1+ years of experience creating 3D part geometry, drawings and assemblies using CAD based tools

  • 1+ years of experience in mechanical design

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Level 3: 5 or more years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Level 4: 10 or more years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • 5+ years of mechanical design experience

  • Project management skills including scoping, estimating, coordinating, planning, and scheduling

  • 1+ years working with stress/structural analysis methods

  • Familiarity with common manufacturing methods ex. Subtractive & additive manufacturing, forming, etc.

  • Technical writing using MS office tools (Word, Excel, Power Point)

  • Experience with mechanical systems design (structural, pneumatic, hydraulic)

  • Experience working with fabrication and assembly shops

  • Hands-on experience with manufacturing and assembly methods and tools

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.  

Summary pay range Associate Level: $85,850 - $116,150

Summary pay range Experienced: $102,000 - $138,0000

Summary pay range Senior: $121,550 - $164,450
