This role is at Spirit AeroSystems, Inc. a wholly owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company, supporting Spirit’s Commercial Business Units (“Spirit Commercial”). Spirit Commercial designs and builds commercial aerostructures, including for Boeing Commercial Airplanes, one of Boeing’s three business units and the premier manufacturer of commercial jetliners for decades. Spirit Commercial’s core products include fuselages, pylons, nacelles and wing components, with a focus on innovative composite and aluminum manufacturing solutions. 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Lead and/or assist with FAA Engineering Delegations, such as ODA and design approval delegations.  Specifically, selection, appointment, and renewal processes, as well as developing, conducting, and/or facilitating associated training and mentoring. 
  • Evaluate non-conforming product escapes for product safety impacts and assist with RCCA / SMS processes to mitigate future recurrences.  
  • Program level planning, which includes certification milestone scheduling, preparing certification metrics and visibility to support management & leadership meetings.
  • Organizing and leading efforts of various groups and technical disciplines to identify and document certification requirements, preparing and/or reviewing certification plans, test plans, test procedures, test reports, compliance reports, and other related certification documents and forms. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited program, with a minimum of 2 years of experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to coordinate with engineering, quality, operations, supplier management, company leadership and FAA designees to successfully lead certification efforts to meet FAA and international regulatory requirements, as applicable. 
  • Ability to identify, plan, prepare, facilitate, track and oversee development and certification deliverables for airplane certification projects and regulatory issues. 
  • Knowledge of FAA regulations regarding aircraft structure and/or propulsion systems. 
  • Familiar with product safety concepts and ability to contribute to Spirit’s Safety Management System (SMS) development team.
  • Specifically hazard identification and assessment of non-conforming product.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Past experience working aircraft related development and/or certification projects demonstrating they can work with customers, suppliers, test labs, and/or regulatory authorities to ensure regulatory compliance in support of airplane certification
  • Knowledge and experience with certification testing is also highly preferred. 
  • Experience presenting technical topics to a wide audience is preferred.
  • Background in Stress or Design Engineering in Aerospace.

Union:

This is a union-represented position

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.  

Summary Pay Range: $70,300 - $107,750
