This role is at Spirit AeroSystems, Inc. a wholly owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company, supporting Spirit’s Commercial Business Units (“Spirit Commercial”). Spirit Commercial designs and builds commercial aerostructures, including for Boeing Commercial Airplanes, one of Boeing’s three business units and the premier manufacturer of commercial jetliners for decades. Spirit Commercial’s core products include fuselages, pylons, nacelles and wing components, with a focus on innovative composite and aluminium manufacturing solutions.

Opportunity

Boeing is looking for a Communications Manager to join the Boeing Wichita Communications team. In this high-impact role, you’ll serve as a trusted communications partner to business leaders and a valued collaborator with teammates supporting site and business unit priorities. Boeing Wichita is one of the company’s largest and most vital sites, home to more than 13,000 teammates who have produced thousands of airplane fuselages and countless other components for Boeing’s commercial programs. With Boeing investing $1 billion over the next three years to modernize facilities and strengthen the production system, this is an exciting opportunity to help tell the story of a site that is shaping the future of commercial aviation. This is a full-time, on-site position with Boeing Commercial Airplanes based in Wichita, Kansas.

Position Description

This is a senior-level communications role responsible for leading the development, execution, and sustainment of employee communications related to manufacturing, operations, safety and quality and other business areas as assigned.

The selected candidate will work closely with executives and communications partners to create impactful communications programs that advance broader business goals, while also supporting Boeing–Spirit AeroSystems integration efforts and related action plans.

The ideal candidate is a strategic and highly organized project manager with strong judgment, excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset. This individual will proactively identify opportunities to strengthen communications, partner effectively across the business, and develop solutions that align with audience needs and organizational priorities. The role also requires the ability to advise business partners on internal communications approaches, content development, channel strategy and the creation of tactical communications materials.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Partner with Boeing Wichita leaders and communications colleagues to develop and deliver effective employee communications.
  • Co-lead communications planning and execution for high-profile site events, employee engagement initiatives and other key activities.
  • Support clear, transparent communication strategies during integration and transformation initiatives, mitigating uncertainty and fostering employee alignment.
  • Collaborate with external communications teams to ensure consistent messaging that supports the company’s reputation and employee advocacy.
  • Collaborate with site and enterprise communications teams to align messaging and best practices across Boeing locations, including Boeing Tulsa.
  • Provide strategic counsel for issues and high-profile situations to senior leaders, balancing timely information and sensitivity with an ability to influence without authority.
  • Provide oversight and management of internal employee communication channels, as well as Boeing Wichita’s social media and website platforms.
  • Provide oversight, management and application of Boeing brand strategy and standards across multiple sites.
  • Mentor and coach communications team members to build skills and enable continuous improvement.
  • Utilize quantitative and qualitative data to assess communication impact and employee sentiment and external stakeholder perception, iterating strategies to ensure alignment with workforce needs and organizational goals.
  • Manage budgets and vendors to support key initiatives and events as required.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience developing and executing internal and external communications strategies and plans.
  • Experience leading cross-functional communications efforts in complex, matrixed organizations.
  • Experience advising and partnering with senior business leaders at the VP/director level and above.
  • Experience leading, mentoring, or coaching peers and other communications professionals.
  • Ability to manage multiple high-priority projects simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong judgment in managing high-profile situations and leading strategically complex, high-impact projects.
  • Proven success in strategic planning and execution.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, collaborative, self-directed team environment.
  • Experience in aerospace or in a large, global organization with a diverse employee population.

Pay & Benefits:

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. 

Summary Pay Range: $105,150 - $161,250

Kansas Tax Credit: Join Spirit AeroSystems’ Kansas team and you may be eligible for a $5,000 state of Kansas Aviation tax credit for up to five years. Click here for more information on the tax credit.
