This role is at Spirit AeroSystems, Inc. a wholly owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company, supporting Spirit’s Commercial Business Units (“Spirit Commercial”). Spirit Commercial designs and builds commercial aerostructures, including for Boeing Commercial Airplanes, one of Boeing’s three business units and the premier manufacturer of commercial jetliners for decades. Spirit Commercial’s core products include fuselages, pylons, nacelles and wing components, with a focus on innovative composite and aluminum manufacturing solutions.

Crane Maintenance Manager

The Crane Maintenance Manager is responsible for the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of all overhead cranes, hoists, and below-the-hook lifting devices across the site. This position provides strategic leadership for the crane program, including maintenance planning, inspections, regulatory compliance, contractor oversight, capital planning, training, and continuous improvement initiatives.

The Crane Maintenance Manager serves as the site subject matter expert for crane safety and reliability and works closely with Operations, Engineering, EHS, Maintenance, and external vendors to ensure lifting equipment is maintained in accordance with OSHA, ASME, CMAA, and company requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Crane Program Ownership
  • Develop and maintain the site’s crane reliability and compliance program.
  • Establish standards for inspection, maintenance, testing, repair, and operation of cranes and hoists.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, ASME B30 standards, CMAA recommendations, and company policies.

Safety & Compliance

  • Lead crane-related safety initiatives and risk reduction efforts.
  • Manage compliance with: OSHA 1910.179, OSHA 1910.184, ASME B30 Series, ASME BTH standards, Applicable state and local regulations
  • Review crane incidents, near misses, and equipment failures.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
  • Support audits and regulatory inspections.

Asset Management

  • Maintain asset inventory and criticality rankings for cranes, hoists, and lifting devices.
  • Develop lifecycle replacement strategies.
  • Prioritize repairs and capital improvements based on risk and business impact.
  • Manage long-term reliability plans for crane systems.

Maintenance Strategy

  • Establish preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Monitor PM completion, backlog, and effectiveness.
  • Develop outage and shutdown plans for major crane repairs.
  • Review and approve major repairs, modifications, and load testing activities.

Contractor & Vendor Management

  • Manage crane inspection and repair contractors.
  • Develop scopes of work and technical specifications.
  • Evaluate contractor performance.
  • Support procurement and contract negotiations.
  • Coordinate third-party inspections and specialized testing.

Training & Qualification

  • Develop training requirements for: Maintenance personnel, Inspectors
  • Ensure qualification records remain current.
  • Support development of site crane competency standards.

Continuous Improvement

  • Drive improvements in: Reliability, Availability, Safety performance, Maintenance efficiency.
  • Lead initiatives involving: Wire rope management, Runway alignment, Modernization projects, Obsolescence reduction, Standardization efforts

Leadership

  • Provide technical guidance to maintenance teams and site leadership.
  • Influence cross-functional teams without direct authority when required.
  • Present program status, risks, and capital needs to senior leadership.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, Maintenance Management, or related field; or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of industrial maintenance experience.
  • 3+ years leading maintenance, reliability, crane, or asset management programs.
  • Experience with overhead cranes, hoists, rigging, or lifting equipment.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and ASME crane standards.
  • Experience managing contractors and service providers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP).
  • ASME crane inspection training.
  • CMAA training or certification.
  • Reliability engineering experience.
  • Aerospace, manufacturing, shipbuilding, steel, automotive, or heavy industrial experience.
  • Experience managing large-scale crane fleets (100+ assets).
  • Knowledge of CMMS systems.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. 

Summary Pay Range: $78,650 - $120,600
