Boeing Commercial Airplanes is excited to offer opportunities for a Drill Press Operator Radial A to join our Fabrication team in Auburn, Washington.

As a Drill Press Operator Radial A, you will be a vital member of our manufacturing team, responsible for setting up and operating radial drill presses to achieve precise machining results. Your expertise will involve interpreting technical documents, selecting appropriate tools and fixtures, and ensuring that all parts meet stringent quality specifications. You will utilize your layout and shop mathematics skills to optimize machining processes while focusing on safety and efficiency. Your attention to detail and commitment to excellence will directly contribute to the success of our production operations.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Completely and independently set up, operate, and adjust assigned Radial Drill Presses to perform rough and finish machining to meet quality requirements and specifications.

  • Use precision measuring instruments, gauges, and tools to set up machines and check machined parts for finish and dimensions.

  • Select and secure proper tools, fixtures, and machine attachments to efficiently accomplish assigned work, and devise precision checking fixtures as needed.

  • Interpret charts, tables, blueprints, and verbal orders, utilizing shop mathematics, including trigonometry, for layout and calculations.

  • Perform necessary bench work to finish parts to required quality specifications.

  • Sequence work operations and ensure full utilization of machine capacities to minimize machining time and setups.

  • Check oil and coolant levels and initiate maintenance service or repair tickets as required.

  • Identify the type of setup required and determine work to be performed by reviewing work orders and setup documents.

  • Obtain appropriate drawings and specifications using online computing systems to guide machining processes.

  • Load and unload workpieces on the drill table manually or using hydraulic/electric lift carts or overhead cranes.

  • Set machine index points per drawings and work orders, including drill and tap depth compensations.

  • Run the machine to perform various machining operations, adjusting settings as necessary to correct issues or prepare for subsequent operations.

  • Monitor the machine during operation for unusual vibrations or sounds, ensuring smooth operation.

  • Check work after each operation to ensure parts meet specifications and are free from defects, removing sharp edges and burrs as required.

  • Sell completed jobs or in-process checks to inspectors at appropriate steps and assist other employees with setups and methods as needed.

Physical Demands and Potential Hazards:

  • Perform physical tasks that include lifting weights ranging from 10-15 lbs to 15-35 lbs.

  • Engage in various movements such as reaching, handling, turning, twisting, lifting, lowering, climbing, balancing, bending, kneeling, crouching, and squatting.

  • Work in environments that may involve contact with metals, solvents, and coolants.

  • Operate in proximity to moving parts and tools, sharp cutters, and potential slipping hazards.

  • Adapt to varying noise levels and atmospheric conditions.

  • Utilize personal safety gear to protect face/eyes, hands/arms, and feet while performing job duties.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee

Basic Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in setting and using precision measuring tools and equipment such as micrometers, calipers, and/or dial indicators

  • Experience using hand and/or air (pneumatic) tools

  • 3+ years of experience with drawing, reading and interpreting Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)

  • Must have basic computer experience and competency

  • Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience setting up and operating Conventional Lathes, Mills, Surface Grinders and Radial Arm Drills

  • Experience do you have working with detailed work instructions

Typical Education & Experience:

High school graduate or GED preferred.

Summary pay range: $31.00 – $54.24 per hour
