Boeing Commercial Airplanes is excited to offer opportunities for a Heat Treater Steel A to join our Fabrication team in Everett and Renton, Washington.

Join our skilled team as a Heat Treater Steel A, where you will independently determine the optimal time, temperature, and quenching methods for various steel types, even when procedures are not pre-established. Your leadership will guide lower-grade employees as you conduct hardness tests and derive process information from blueprints and specifications. You will expertly operate and program heat treat ovens, ensuring precise control and monitoring throughout the process. Your attention to detail will be vital as you load and unload materials, perform necessary calculations, and maintain accurate records of each operation. Position Responsibilities:

  • Determine the time, temperature, quenching medium, and sequence of operations necessary for heat treating steel when procedures are not established or the type of steel is unidentified.

  • Lead and assist lower-grade employees in heat treatment processes and operations.

  • Conduct hardness tests to ensure proper heating and quenching of materials.

  • Derive process information from shop orders, blueprints, and specifications to inform heat treatment procedures.

  • Set controls and bring the furnace up to the required heat for processing.

  • Load, unload, quench, clean, and stack materials as part of the heat treatment process.

  • Review work orders to determine the specific heat treatment processes required for production parts or raw materials.

  • Visually inspect the work area to prioritize tasks and ensure efficient workflow.

  • Monitor heat treat ovens and check processes, including temperature and recording charts, as required.

  • Group work orders by selecting compatible materials for heat treatment according to specifications.

  • Use mathematical calculations to determine the necessary parameters for heat treatment, such as thickness and time.

  • Utilize correct loading and racking techniques to ensure uniform heating and minimize warping of parts.

  • Operate and program the control panel to adjust the heat treat oven to the proper temperature before loading parts.

  • Record pertinent information on chart recorders and work orders, including load details and processing times.

  • Handle and dispose of hazardous materials in compliance with safety regulations and maintain personal and tool certifications.

Physical Demands and Potential Hazards:

  • Perform physical tasks that include lifting weights ranging from 10-15 lbs to 15-35 lbs.

  • Engage in various movements such as reaching, handling, turning, twisting, lifting, lowering, climbing, balancing, bending, kneeling, crouching, and squatting.

  • Work in environments that may involve contact with metals, solvents, and coolants.

  • Operate in proximity to moving parts and tools, sharp cutters, and potential slipping hazards.

  • Adapt to varying noise levels and atmospheric conditions.

  • Utilize personal safety gear to protect face/eyes, hands/arms, and feet while performing job duties.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee

Basic Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience with metal heat treating processes.

  • 3+ years of experience using software applications for internet navigation, email, Microsoft suite and/or other specialized computer applications.

  • 3+ years of experience monitoring vacuum furnaces and program control panels to adjust heat treat oven to proper temperature and cycles for required specifications.

  • 3+ years of experience supporting aluminum heat treat and aluminum metal forming.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in setting and using precision measuring tools and equipment such as micrometers, calipers, and/or dial indicators

Typical Education & Experience:

High school graduate or GED preferred.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.  

Summary pay range: $31.00 – $54.24
