The Boeing Test & Evaluation (BT&E) team is seeking a Systems Test & Evaluation Engineer to join our team in Long Beach, CA.Our test capability requires engineers who are driven, innovative, and committed to our customers’ missions.  Our engineering culture encourages and rewards independent thinking, commitment to teamwork, and a system-level vision. 

The selected candidate will be responsible for contributing to Southern California Aeronautical System Integration & Test (ASIT) program deliverables for multiple airplane platforms programs. The scope of responsibility for the ASIT team includes design, integration and sustaining support of System Integration Labs (SIL/AIL), Hardware-in-the-Loop Simulators (HILS), and Flight Management System (FMS) Labs. The position works closely with BT&E leadership, BGS leadership, Integrated Product Team (IPT) Leads, and the BT&E ASIT Enterprise Capability Leader on functional excellence. Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including Experienced and Senior Level Systems Test & Evaluation Engineers.

Position Responsibilities:

Level 3 & 4 Responsibilities:

  • Applies an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop and verify a lifecycle balanced system of systems and system solutions

  • Plans for the technology modernization roadmap and obsolescence evaluations needed to maintain and improve upon existing lab test capabilities

  • Evaluates customer and /operational needs to define and coordinate system test requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces

  • Performs various analyses to optimize total system of systems and/or system architecture

  • Leads the execution of lab projects by managing objectives, requirements, tasks, and schedule milestones and coordinating between hardware, software, systems, and specialty engineering functions

  • Leverages both Waterfall and Agile style project management methodologies to manage project plans and effective project execution

  • Practices Earned Value Management to understand technical, cost, and schedule performance on projects

  • Performs analyses for affordability, safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other specialties quality factors into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success

  • Develops the planning, organization, implementation and monitoring of requirements management processes, tools, risk, issues, opportunity management and technology readiness assessment processes

  • Develops Rough order of Magnitude (ROM) estimates and Basis of Estimates (BoE)s to support proposals and planning for future work

  • Leads the execution of lab projects by managing objectives, requirements, tasks, and schedule and coordinating between hardware, software, systems, and specialty engineering functions

  • Develop and execute project and process plans, implements policies and procedures and sets operational goals

Level 4 Additional Responsibilities:

  • Manage, develop and motivate employees as a lead and mentor

  • Participate at an enterprise level with BT&E Subject Matter Experts to contribute to design practices, engineering best practices, knowledge sharing, and process improvement

  • Acquire resources for projects and processes, provides technical management of suppliers and leads process improvements

  • Develop and maintain relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners and direct reports

  • Provide oversight and approval of technical approaches, products and processes

  • Leads and oversees the development of Rough order of Magnitude (ROM) estimates and Basis of Estimates (BoE)s to support proposals and planning for future work

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science

  • Strong understanding of configuration management tools and best practices for Systems, Software, and Hardware design

  • Experience working with DOORS to do requirements management

  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft tools, including data manipulation and analysis in Excel, generating and streamlining presentations in PowerPoint, and use of change tracking and collaboration in Word

  • Strong oral and written communication skills – including the ability to document ideas, plans, architectures clearly; proper use of grammar and spelling

  • Experience with presenting information to leaders and external customers

  • Experience in acting in agile (SCRUM) leadership roles of Product Owner and/or Scrum Master

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Level 4: 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Experience leading teams and holding individuals accountable to commitments by creating a culture of ownership and accountability

  • Experience developing, managing, and modifying requirements, design solutions, and verification approaches

  • Experience leading in an agile/scrum team operating rhythm as a participant or in a role product owner or scrum master

  • Leading the development of Basis of Estimates for U.S. Government proposals

  • Experience leading in an agile/scrum team operating rhythm as a participant or in a role product owner or scrum master

  • Leading the development of BOE

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

Summary Pay Range for Mid-level (Level 3):  $104,550 – $141,450

Summary Pay Range for Senior level (Level 4):  $128,350 – $173,650
