Spectrolab, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company, is seeking broad range of levels to include Experienced and Senior Industrial Engineers to join the space solar panel engineering team in Sylmar, CA.

The successful candidate will be at the center of ensuring successful operation of a space solar panel factory including such things as factory organization, work instructions, training, readiness, execution by the operations team to the engineering requirements. The Industrial engineer will be analyzing factory performance to identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies and improving workflows in response.

The Industrial Engineer will be able to team with others from a diverse set of backgrounds and interests and will be able to collaborate with persons from a wide variety of skill sets and experiences.  Your individual contribution and team leadership is essential to meet site KPI goals and drive efficiency improvement of manufacturing and business processes. Focus areas include quality, cost, delivery, and safety throughout the organization.

Due to the production nature of this work, this engineer will need the ability to work flexible hours and occasional weekends when necessary.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Applies advanced industrial engineering concepts, approaches and techniques to product, process and services to meet program requirements.
  • Reviews the development of complex plant and equipment layouts, capacity plans, accident prevention measures, sequencing of operations and work flows.
  • Identifies new techniques and technological developments for integration into the production process and service operations.
  • Designs, maintains, and optimizes the production system by integrating design, supply base, facilities, equipment, and personnel.
  • Reviews work flow design and analysis.
  • Leads the development of models, databases and spreadsheets to analyze data and provides summary analysis and metrics for consultation to leader and customers.
  • Leads research, design, development, improvement, and implementation of processes and tools to enhance schedule performance, lower cost, and improve quality, for large scale systems integration and asset utilization.
  • Reviews plans and programs for facility/factory modifications and revisions to operating methods.
  • Evaluates product assembly instructions and standardizes assembly practices. Leads operations planning, includes work statement analysis, budgeting and forecasts, capacity and constraint analysis and production change, to ensure technical goals and objectives are met.
  • Leads execution planning by using project management, planning and scheduling and shop load practices.
  • Monitors production, supply chain logistics, performance visibility and recovery planning support.
  • Ensures compliance with established industry safety, design standards and ergonomic guidelines.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location options.

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor's Degree (or higher) from an accredited course of study in engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working in a team environment and communicating clearly with both internal and external customers.
  • Experience using basic MS Office software tools including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience in working both independently and collaboratively as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Working knowledge of statistical analysis tools/software (i.e. Minitab, etc.).
  • Proficient with ERP/MRP systems.
  • Experience with data analysis using tools such as SQL, Excel, Minitab and similar
  • Excellent communications skills, verbal and written.
  • Ability to effectively communicate at all levels of management, customers, and partners.
  • Master of Science in an engineering discipline.

Typical Education/Experience

Experienced (Level 3)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Senior Level (Level 4)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Relocation:

Relocation assistance is not a negotiable benefit for this position. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.

Summary pay range Experienced (Level 3): $ 92,650 – 125,350

Summary pay range Senior (Level 4): $109,650 – 148,350
