The Boeing Test and Evaluation Team in the United Kingdom covers Maintenance Test Flying, Experimental Test Flying and Instructional activity. 

BT&E UK require a full time Chinook Flight Engineer (Loadmaster) for flight operations as part of Boeing’s UK Chinook programme and as a flexible team member across the Boeing Test & Evaluation portfolio of activities. Part time employment could also be negotiated for the right candidate.

The role will have the following key responsibilities:

  • Delivery flying, systems testing, training, support to test flying and functional test flights on production and non-production aircraft

  • Make preflight, in-flight and post flight inspections, to ensure safe and efficient operation of aircraft.

  • Perform the duties as an air crew member.

  • Requires Flight Engineer/Crewman qualification and able to pass a CAA Class 1 medical.

  • Coordinate aircraft schedules with Flight Operations Manager, allocates qualified flight crew, monitors flight schedule changes and notifies flight crew.

  • Plans, attends/facilitates meetings to communicate preflight requirements.

  • Demonstrate competitive and technical features of aircraft for customer evaluation.

  • Represent Boeing Flight Operations at Middle Wallop, RAF Odiham and other locations.

  • Provide aircrew advice to the Boeing Design Team and assist with product development.

  • Periodic support to Boeing Flight Operations at other global Boeing sites as required.

  • Support customer meetings.

  • Participate in programme planning and support for safety activities.

  • Identify risks, issues and opportunities and support the development of mitigation plans.

  • Support the further development and maintenance of safety process.

  • Plan and conduct maintenance, production and acceptance test flights.

  • Identify and document flight deficiencies and coordinate resolution.

  • Ensure design integrity and recommend changes based on operational considerations.

  • Review service related issues and customer feedback to continuously improve production check procedures and documentation.

Education and Experience:

  • Be fully aware of general aviation principles and have detailed experience of flying in the UK.

  • Must be able to pass a UK CAA Class 1 and military aviation medical.

  • Able to identify when safety within the flying environment may be compromised and can be relied upon to act decisively to improve aviation safety.

  • The role will have significant UK MoD and wider Boeing interface and therefore a person who is diplomatic whilst being strong minded is required.

  • Chinook Loadmaster Brevet/Qualification is essential.

  • A UK military CFS instructional qualification is desirable but not essential.

  • Detailed technical knowledge of the Chinook helicopter. The candidate would also benefit from experience on other rotary / fixed wing aircraft.  

  • Able to effectively execute and seek opportunities to improve strategies, processes and project plans. Assist with removal of obstacles by identifying where help is needed and coordinating with the appropriate leaders and team members.

This role is available for Full or Part-time working.
