Boeing Commercial Airplanes is hiring a Production Engineering Equipment and Reliability Engineering Manager based in North Charleston, SC

This Equipment & Reliability Engineering Manager will support 787 AFT-Body, MID-Body, Component & Decorative Paint, Final Assembly, and other area's as directed.

Our Goal is to perform the RIGHT maintenance engineering at the RIGHT time on our critical systems to keep them operating at the most optimum efficiency and prevent customer impact due to down systems. Being able to identify not only short-term maintenance engineering plans but also anticipate long-term life cycle asset management is critical to our overall Equipment and Reliability Engineering (E&RE) strategy. We are seeking highly motivated, organized, and strategic individual to support and grow our organization to ensure we are developing and implementing Best Practices and Standard Work across all business units.

The selected candidate will lead/manage a team of employees performing engineering and technical activities in the area of Production Engineering. Develops and executes projects and process plans, implements policies and procedures, and sets operational goals. Acquires resources for projects and processes, provides technical management of suppliers, and leads process improvements. Develops and maintains relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, and direct reports. Provides oversight and approval of technical approaches, products, and processes. Insists on the Highest Standards, has a strong Bias for Action, Delivers Results and has a strong Customer Focus. Manages, mentors, develops, and motivates employees. Manages all direct reports in regard to time, attendance and performance, etc.

The ideal candidate will be accountable, adaptable, build positive relationships, develop engaged and empowered teams, and be a strong communicator.  Strategic decision-making skills, analytical skills, leader in development skills and project management skills are highly desired for this role.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Always leads with safety in the forefront; identifies opportunities to drive a culture of safety and implements safe solutions at all levels.
  • Identifies and develops Best Practices focusing on safety and housekeeping processes that can be applied broadly with the goal of maintaining safe equipment operating conditions and reducing repair and avoidable cost (MTBF/MTTR)
  • Work with SMEs to develop action plans and playbooks to ensure proper equipment utilization and up time is maintained.
  • Establishes communication, develops escalation procedures and contingency plans to negate periods of operational impact related to operational issues.
  • Develop training for engineering and maintenance teams based on customer & leadership expectations.
  • Conduct Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) focused on asset maintainability and operational preparedness.
  • Participate in regular meetings with customers and stakeholders, various sites MBUs, and OEMs to seek feedback and provide updates to Leadership.
  • Develops and implements reliability solutions that are integrated into departmental plans to ensure business, technical and customer requirements are achieved.
  • Forecasts, obtains, and manages personnel, facilities, services, equipment, and tools to meet project and departmental requirements.
  • Coaches, counsels, mentors, and provides developmental opportunities and job assignments to enhance employee performance and expand capabilities of direct reports and others within their department.
  • Provides on-going developmental feedback while promoting employee recognition. 
  • Contributes to building a departmental culture that improves employee satisfaction and retains a skilled and motivated workforce.
  • Provides input on the development of departmental business and technical strategies, goals, objectives, and related metrics to ensure alignment with company vision/strategy.
  • Establishes partnerships and relationships with internal and external customers, stakeholders, peers, and direct reports.
  • Builds strategic cross-functional and cross-organizational partnerships to resolve problems, improve processes or achieve goals.
  • Creates a culture of continuous improvement by communicating/deploying enterprise best practices and employee engagement to improve cost, quality, delivery, employee job satisfaction and customer satisfaction.
  • Experience working within a fast-paced team environment which required strong communication skills to frequently interact with program leadership, internal and external customer representatives and development teams.
  • This position manages resources on multiple shifts (1,2,3).

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an ABET accredited course of study (STEM); I.e., Mechanical Engineering and/or Electrical Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in leading or managing a cross-functional teams in the art of Reliability Engineering or a combination of Reliability, Electrical Controls, Robotics and Automation.
  • 5+ years of experience in interacting with customers, at all levels, on a one-on-one basis and in group settings.

  • Asset Obsolescence Analysis/Strategy
  • Thorough understand of electro-mechanical systems to include:
    • Electrical Controls
    • Power Transmission
    • Hydraulics
    • Pneumatics
    • Vacuum, process hold down & particulate capture
    • Building infrastructure as it relates to process; all utilities
  • Metrology Inspection and Measurement; Production Assets and Tooling Experience and driving machine performance standards and calibrations.
  • CMRP or CRL Certification preferred.

Pay Range Summary:

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.  

K-Level Manager: $129,200 - $174,800
