Materials and Processes Engineering (M&P) serves as the face of research and development to our program customers and is committed to their success. M&P strives to enable program competitiveness through evaluating innovative materials and processes solutions, curating deep knowledge of our customers’ requirements and value streams, providing world class laboratory services and implementing solutions across design, production, supply chain and the fleet.

Our team is looking for a broad range of experience levels including; Associate or Mid-Level Lab Technicians located in North Charleston, South Carolina. The Chemical Technology Lab Technician will provide critical hands-on support to the Boeing South Carolina Delivery Center and manufacturing team. This position supports 2nd shift, with weekend on-call support on a rotating schedule. 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Generates testing coupons, operate test equipment, conduct test activities, monitor test procedures, and maintains compliance with laboratory safety practices
  • Evaluates parts, materials, processes, technology or equipment through research and testing to ensure safety, reliability and adherence to requirements and specifications
  • Analyzes failed parts and processes to reduce or eliminate future failures
  • Generates test plans, catalog test data, identifies and categorizes failures, determines root cause and documents results and recommendations as well as operating procedures
  • Proposes, develops and validates revisions to procedures and specifications. Determines suitability of parts, materials and processes
  • Determines suitability of parts, materials and processes and coordinates resolution of issues with suppliers and customers
  • Supports continuous improvement of products and processes by designing, developing, fabricating, testing, evaluating and implementing new concepts and technology
  • Provides knowledge and technical consultation to internal and external customers

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Associate’s degree or higher
  • 1 years’ experience working in a chemical laboratory environment
  • 1 years’ lab test operations experience
  • 1 years’ experience operating test equipment
  • 1 years’ experience with handling chemicals and/or hazardous materials
  • Experience developing laboratory documentation, test procedures, and data collection protocols
  • Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications (e.g., blueprint/schematic reading, specification, change, design)

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 3+ years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Aviation or aerospace industry experience
  • Experience with the following equipment and procedures: FTIR, GCMS, XRF, titration, calorimetry, and material characterization
  • Experience with mechanical knowledge of different equipment found in chemical labs (e.g. pumps, heaters, etc)
  • Organizational skills to handle multiple work requests from start to finish
  • Strong ability to perform work independently as well as work well with others
  • High attention to detail, self-starter and results driven
  • Interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills, and ability to perform effectively in a team environment
  • Experience with MS Office Suite, such as Word and Excel
  • Physically able to lift 35 pounds

Summary Pay Range:

Associate (Level 2) $52,700 - $71,300

Mid-Level (Level 3) $61,200 - $82,800
