Boeing Commercial Airplanes is excited to offer opportunities for a Materials Management Specialist to join our Materials Management & Tooling team in the Puget Sound in Washington.

As a Materials Management Specialist, you will be essential in maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety throughout the materials handling and management processes. Your role will involve receiving, sorting, and storing materials, tools, and equipment while ensuring accurate inventory control and compliance with operational standards. You will be responsible for cleaning and preparing surfaces, loading and maintaining sealing equipment, and applying sealants and topcoats according to specifications. Additionally, you will assist with pressure testing operations and perform functional tests to identify and address any leaks, all while adhering to established safety protocols. Your attention to detail will be critical in conducting visual inspections of incoming hardware, performing necessary rework, and maintaining the 5S process for organization and efficiency.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Obtain daily work assignments from the lead or supervisor and review Installation Plans (IP) and Shop Order Instants (SOI) to determine the work area.

  • Receive, sort, store, kit, inventory, issue, and route materials, tools, and equipment for assigned areas.

  • Operate mechanical lifts and other material handling equipment to move freight, parts, and tools as required.

  • Clean tank surfaces using appropriate solvents or detergents and ensure they are wiped dry.

  • Load sealing guns and clean sealing equipment to ensure proper functionality.

  • Apply sealants and topcoats per specifications, including fillet seals to system components and sealing heads and collars of fasteners.

  • Perform shakedowns of work areas prior to closure to repair any damaged seals or components and prepare for inspection.

  • Assist with pressure testing operations and perform functional tests on fuel vent systems to identify and address any leaks.

  • Prepare items for shipment, ensuring appropriate coordination and documentation for flyaway kits and vendor pickups.

  • Maintain thorough inventory recording and control systems, ensuring accuracy and compliance with operational standards.

  • Handle and dispose of hazardous materials in an approved manner, following established procedures.

  • Conduct visual inspections of incoming hardware for identification and damage upon receipt.

  • Perform rework on faulty sealing beads and fillets as required.

  • Maintain the 5S process through visual identification and organization of items, tools, and parts storage.

  • Use various information systems and technology to perform job functions and maintain training and required certifications regularly.

Physical Demands and Potential Hazards:

  • Perform physical tasks that include lifting weights ranging from 10-15 lbs to 15-35 lbs.

  • Engage in various movements such as reaching, handling, turning, twisting, lifting, lowering, climbing, balancing, bending, kneeling, crouching, and squatting.

  • Work in environments that may involve contact with metals, solvents, and coolants.

  • Operate in proximity to moving parts and tools, sharp cutters, and potential slipping hazards.

  • Adapt to varying noise levels and atmospheric conditions.

  • Utilize personal safety gear to protect face/eyes, hands/arms, and feet while performing job duties. 

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee

Basic Qualifications:

  • 1+ year of experience with inventory, stock, or supply chain.​

  • Experience working with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).​

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1+ year of experience in warehouse or logistics operations.​

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.​

  • Ability to walk constantly throughout the workday; stand 6-8 hours per day; climb or work from stairs/steps up to 8 hours per day; climb ladders; bend and twist frequently up to six hours per day; squat and kneel.​

  • Capable of lifting, pushing and pulling up to 35 pounds.

Typical Education & Experience:

High school graduate or GED preferred.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.  

Summary pay range:$23.00 – $47.22 per hour
