Boeing Defense is currently hiring an AssociateIndustrial Engineer (Level 2) to become part of the F/A-18 Super Hornet Service Life Modification (SLM) Production Engineering Team in San Antonio, TX.

The F/A-18 Super Hornet Service Life Modification (SLM) Program delivers critical new capabilities and additional service life to the US Navy. It includes extending the Super Hornet's service life to 10,000 hours, upgrading to the Block III cockpit, and an upgrade to core mission systems.  These upgrades give the warfighter critical capabilities and keep the F/A-18 in active service for decades to come.

Candidates should be comfortable working in a high pressure, fast paced environment. In this role you will have the opportunity to apply Industrial Engineering concepts to develop operating plans and recovery plans, conduct capacity and constraint-based analysis, develop and refine precedence networks, and conduct overall process effectiveness studies. You will also have opportunities to develop, implement, and improve processes focused on lowering costs and improving schedule performance and quality. Candidates must be able to operate within a multi-functional team, coordinating with various departments.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Use engineering methods (e.g., mathematical models, simulations, statistics) to support the development of optimal process designs and efficient utilization of resources (e.g., facilities, personnel, materials, equipment…) in the creation and validation of operating plan to meet program requirements.

  • Develop operating plans, precedence networks, recovery, and work around plans. Discretely schedule work plans, conduct data analysis (historical, trends and production impacts / risk analysis).

  • Develop, implement, and improve processes to enhance discrete schedule performance, lower cost, and improve quality through the application of Lean and other Industrial Engineering concepts.

  • Develop models, databases and spreadsheets to analyze data (e.g., statistics, operations research, trend and production impacts), and provide summary analysis and metrics for consultation to customers (e.g., management, senior leadership, other departments, suppliers).

  • Under general direction, analyze and design value streams, including capability, capacity throughput, work operation sequencing, work flow and logistics (e.g., critical path, lead-time, transportation, factory layout).

  • Candidate must be able to interact with other employees to gather data for process improvements. This may include observing, documenting processes, and collecting data in manufacturing areas or on aircraft during various production phases.

  • Candidate must work well within a team environment.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship as a condition of employment.

  • An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.

  • 2+ years of experience with Industrial Engineering or a similar role (i.e. Production Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, in an assembly or fabrication environment).

  • 2+ years or experience with precedence development, generating operating/recovery plans, and overall process improvement / effectiveness (e.g. Time Studies, Work Sampling).

  • 2+ years supporting the preparation of operations plans, including work statement analysis, budgeting and forecasts, capacity and constraint analysis and production change, to ensure technical goals and objectives are met.

  • Follows compliance requirements with established industry safety, design standards and ergonomic guidelines.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Aircraft / Aerospace industry experience.  Familiarity with Manufacturing Operations, Manufacturing Planning, engineering drawings and specifications, and lean concepts (certifications preferred).

  • 2+ years of experience with any of the following programming languages: VBA, Python, SQL (Oracle Preferred).

  • 2+ years of experience with any of the following platforms: Tableau, Toad.

  • Proficient with ERP/MRP systems (Goldesp Preferred).

  • F/A-18 Platform Experience.

Typical Education/Experience:

Level 2: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Summary pay range:

Level 2: $72,250 - $97,750
