Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) Missile Defense Programs capability is seeking a Mid-Level Systems Engineering Manager in support of the development, integration, verification, and test of the Ballistic Missile Defense System (MDS) now and into the future from Huntsville, AL.

Missile Defense Programs include Command and Control Battle Management and Communications (C2BMC), Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD), and Missile Defense National Team (MDNT) that are part of the Ballistic MDS which defends the United States homeland and its regional allies all over the world. The MDNT provides systems engineering solutions to the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) for the development and evolution of the MDS which is an integrated, layered architecture that provides multiple opportunities to destroy missiles and their warheads before they can reach their targets.  MDNT supports both the homeland and regional defense needs of our nation against today’s threats and for the future.

You will split your responsibilities between directly assigned technical assignments, managing Boeing MDNT team members, and formulating strategy for growth in this business area.  This leader will work daily in the execution of direct scope and managing a deeply technical team.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Manages employees and first-level managers performing engineering and technical activities in the area of Systems Engineering.
  • Develops and executes integrated departmental plans, policies and procedures, and provides input on departmental business and technical strategies, goals, objectives.
  • Acquires resources for department activities, provides technical management of suppliers, and leads process improvements.
  • Develops and maintains relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners, and direct reports.
  • Provides oversight and approval of technical approaches, products, and processes.
  • Manages, develops, and motivates employees and first-level managers.
  • The ideal candidate will excel in both the engineering technical acumen/excellence required for this role while being an engaging and motivating people leader, including committing to:

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience using Systems Engineering processes and tools to develop complex systems.
  • Experience with EO/IR sensors, RF/Radar sensors, missiles/interceptors, ICBM / hypersonic / MRM / SRM threats, discrimination analysis, detection/tracking, or Command and Control (e.g., C3I, C4I, etc.)
  • Experience in aspects of missile defense systems such as Aegis Weapons Systems, Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD), Fire Control (FOM, GFC), C2BMC, BMDS sensors (EO/IR/RF), kill vehicles, interceptors, hypersonic vehicles, countermeasures, counter-countermeasures, or threats).
  • Leadership experience of technical teams and customer coordination experience on complex DoD system development programs.
  • Experience with Agile Development processes.
  • Excellent communications skills, verbal and written.
  • Ability to effectively communicate at all levels of management, customers, and partners.
  • Master of Science in an engineering discipline.
  • Ability to build a safe environment of inclusion, transparency, and trust.
  • Leadership skills to lead and influence positive outcomes.
  • Previous experience in leading, mentoring, and engaging individuals and teams.
  • Can up-level existing team by hiring high performance talent, growing leaders and helping underperforming members.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. 

Summary pay range: $155,550 - $210,450


Export Control Requirements: This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
