BGS is currently hiring C-17 Mechanical and Fluid Systems Engineers in Long Beach, California. This position will support the C-17 Globemaster III Sustainment Engineering effort, working on team that focuses on maintaining and modifying aircraft mechanical and fluid systems such as hydraulics, flight control actuation, landing gear, environmental controls, and fuels.

This role involves evaluating, designing, and analyzing systems to ensure the continued operational effectiveness, reliability, and safety of the C-17 fleet. The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement solutions that enhance aircraft performance and supportability.

Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including Entry and Associate C-17 Mechanical and Fluid Systems Engineers.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the design and analysis of mechanical and fluid systems, including hydraulic, pneumatic, and fuel systems, to support the sustainment and performance improvements of the C-17 aircraft
  • Utilize engineering analysis tools and software (e.g., Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), and CAD software) to support system evaluations and ensure compliance with performance and safety standards
  • Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) efforts for mechanical and fluid system issues, contributing to the development of corrective actions and design modifications
  • Collaborate with maintenance, operations, and other engineering teams to provide technical support and guidance on sustaining engineering challenges related to mechanical and fluid systems
  • Assist in the development and review of engineering documentation, including specifications, design reports, and test plans, ensuring compliance with regulatory and safety standards
  • Support senior engineers in mentoring and providing guidance to interns and junior engineers, promoting a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing
  • Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices related to mechanical and fluid systems in aerospace engineering

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor’s degree within Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering Discipline
  • Experience in materials process engineering for aerospace applications
  • Experience working with computer aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) such as CATIA, Solidworks or Siemens NX
  • Experience communicating with technical personnel from multiple skill areas and functions to evaluate technical information
  • Strong analytic, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 2 years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in mechanical design and analysis, specifically related to mechanical and fluid systems within the aerospace industry 
  • Experience with C-17 aircraft systems and operations, particularly in mechanical and fluid systems
  • Experience or familiarity with military aviation regulations and standards, with experience in compliance and safety assessments
  • Exposure to model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and digital engineering practices

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. 

Summary Pay Range for Entry (Level 1): $69,700 - $94,300

Summary Pay Range for Associate (Level 2): $81,600 - $110,400


Export Control Requirements: This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
