Boeing Global Services BGS is seeking a Systems Engineer - Airworthiness to provide support for Long Beach, California. We are looking for innovative, enthusiastic, and highly collaborative teammates that have unlimited curiosity and a passion for diving into design architecture details. This engineer will be interested in supporting C-17 airplane programs in services and modernization with airworthiness assignments to sustain airplane programs with new design changes implemented to the fleet.

The team's broad work statement will provide the opportunity to perform

airworthiness at the component, system, and airplane level across a broad

range of functional disciplines, including Avionics, Mechanical,

Environmental, Electrical, and Propulsion. We are looking for individuals that

are adept at evaluating system architectures to determine the consequences

of design change to process through the airworthiness processes and can collaborate with Design Engineers to provide various artifacts/data that meet the regulations.

Strong candidates will have an engineering background, with a solid

understanding of certification processes. You can contribute to work that matters where diversity, equity, and inclusion are shared values. You'll be an integral part of supporting the continued safe operation of the C-17 fleets.

Position Responsibilities: 

  • Review and assessment project development and test artifacts for applicability to, and substantiation of, airworthiness criteria.
  • Work with internal and customer teams for airworthiness criteria applicability and compliance.
  • Create and submit airworthiness compliance packages.
  • Familiarity with airworthiness methodology and criteria, MIL-STD 516C preferred.
  • Apply Systems Engineering principles, tools, and techniques to the Design, Technical Documents, Testing, and Certification of aircraft.
  • Ability to understand the big picture and the inter-relationships of all positions and activities in the system, including the impact of changes in one area on another area. This includes the ability to see and understand the inter-relationships between components of systems and plans, anticipate future events, and apply the principles of systems thinking to accelerate performance.
  • Knowledge of aircraft systems, components, and loadable/non-loadable software.
  • Skill and ability to collect, organize, synthesize, and analyze data; summarize findings; develop conclusions and recommendations from appropriate data sources.
  • Knowledge of verification, validation, certification and qualification processes and procedures, including knowledge of governing regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to assess and document test or analysis data to show compliance.
  • Resolves cross-functional technical issues.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite in Long Beach, CA.


This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship.An interim and/or final U.S. secret clearance Post Start is required.


Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):  

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, chemistry, electrical, aeronautical, mechanical engineering and typically 3 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience.
  • 3+ years of experience with commercial or military airplane certification, and procedures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse engineering team.
  • Intrinsic aptitude for taking initiative, leading cross-functional teams and complex projects.
  • Ability and willingness to take ownership of work activities to ensure they are completed accurately, efficiently, and in a timely manner.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Familiarity with airworthiness methodology and criteria, MIL-STD 516C preferred.
  • A background in project management or project leadership is a plus.

Relocation:
This position is located in a location that does not offer relocation.  Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.

Shift:

This position is for 1st shift.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.  

Summary pay range: $105,000 to $141,000
