The opportunity

The AH-64E Apache is the world's most advanced and proven attack helicopter. It integrates innovative technologies to aid the crew in decision making, offering a new level of battlefield dominance through enhanced performance, increased situational awareness, superior survivability, and improved target detection, acquisition and engagement.

We are seeking an experienced Principal Avionics Engineer (Avionics Lead)to support the most modern and capable configuration of the AH-64 Apache attack helicopter.

The role is to be based in Enoggera, Brisbane with the Army customer in an integrated Attack Helicopter System Program Office (AHSPO).

The Avionics Engineering Lead will work within the Apache Systems Program Office (SPO) as part of the CASG Army Aviation Systems Branch (AASB) and exercise the following responsibilities:

  • Provision of avionics, electrical, software and mission system expertise to the Apache introduction into service tasks, supporting the realization of key capability outcomes for Army,
  • Technical oversight and management of avionics, electrical and software engineers within the Apache Platform Engineering team.
  • Exercising systems of work within the AASB Engineering Management System (EMS) through all phases of the capability lifecycle;
  • Technical support to foundational engineering efforts for the AH-64E aircraft, including the assessing of compliance evidence in support of Type Certification, the management of avionics work packages, and the developing system level risk assessments;
  • Manage avionics, software and electrical engineering tasks, both on and off aircraft, from concept to capability realization and in-service support.
  • Support engagement or engage directly with multiple outside agencies on technical and engineering matters, including requests for and provision of engineering advice from/to United States Government (Army), Operational Units, Maintenance Organisations, National and International Military Airworthiness Authorities and Australian Army Aviation Command.
  • Review and Approval of applicable content in US and locally developed technical manuals within the privileges of delegated engineering authority.
  • Support the Engineering Manager to establish prioritization of avionics, software and electrical engineering tasks, both on and off aircraft, from concept to capability realization and in-service support.
  • Demonstrate technical responsibility and leadership, and exercise Engineering Authority within the AASB EMS.
  • Hold and exercise AASB Engineering Authorities of Design Engineer, and Compliance Verification Engineer.
  • Foster and actively participate in the ongoing development of the avionics and electrical team.
  • Contribute through actions, communication and involvement to a positive and integrated program culture.


About you

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • [Essential] Relevant Aerospace Engineering degree, 8 years+ relevant experience in a similar role
  • (Desirable) prior Defence service/Defence aerospace experience; ideally Rotary Wing experience
  • (Desirable) Completion of DASR 21, Part M, Type cert courses
  • Meet Defence security and ITAR requirements.
