The Boeing Airplane Safety Engineering team is seeking a Safety Engineering 
Manager (K-Level) to join our team.


The Airplane Safety Engineering (ASE) team is responsible for airplane-level 
safety analysis and integration, the Continued Operational Safety (COS) process, and the Safety Lessons Learned process. The ASE team supports new and derivative airplane designs from concept development through in-service 
support. For development programs, the ASE team is responsible for working 
with the BCA Airplane Programs and regulators to ensure the scope of the 
program safety analysis is appropriate, that functional teams supporting the 
program are aware of and following the processes for safety analyses, and 
execute airplane level safety analyses for the program. For in-service support, the ASE team partners with BCA Airplane Programs, functional leaders and the FAA to identify and mitigate safety issues, as well as investigate related systemic root causes and identify corrective actions in order to effectively manage risk of the  in-service fleet.


The selected candidate will manage a team supporting active commercial product development projects as well as in production programs. The ASE team performs critical airplane technical analysis with high visibility across Boeing Commercial Airplanes. The selected candidate will play an integral role in ensuring safe airplane operations and design. 


Position Responsibilities:

  • Manage engineers performing technical activities in the area of integration of safety processes across multiple functional teams
  • Develop and maintain relationships with BCA Program, Enterprise Safety, 
  • Safety Management Systems (SMS) and Functional Team leaders as well as collaborate with regulators
  • Create and maintain a culture of open communication and diversity with focus on continuous improvement and knowledge transfer
  • Promote talent acquisition and retention within the team by ensuring career development of direct reports, promoting employee recognition, and building a team culture that improves employee satisfaction
  • Establish and implement integrated team plans (e.g. budgets, schedules, performance standards) to ensure business, technical and customer requirements are achieved

Work Authorization:

This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required.  “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee. 

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.


Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
  • 4+ years of experience in an engineering role
  • 1+ year(s) of experience in leadership either formally or informally leading 
    teams in a cross-functional environment

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Strong motivation to prioritize retaining, developing, and growing team members
  • Strong communication skills, both written and spoken with a varied audience
  • Experience with leading technical cross functional teams, working across organizational boundaries, and ensuring an inclusive environment
  • 3+ year(s) of experience in leadership either formally or informally leading teams in a cross-functional environment
  • Experience with Systems Engineering & Integration and Airplane Safety
  • Prior experience with airplane development programs or in-service airplane support
  • Experience applying System Safety industry best practices (e.g. ARP4761 and ARP4754, MIL-STD-882, NASA-STD 8719, etc.)
  • Engineering background in at least one of the following disciplines: Airframe, Flight Sciences, Flight Test, Interiors, Propulsion, or Systems, and an understanding of certification processes

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. 

Summary pay range : $147,050 – $198,950
