Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS), Maritime and Intelligence Systems (M&IS) seeks a Designer with a strong background in CAD to join our Mission Systems Operations team in Herndon, VA.  Our team focuses on delivering complex solutions in some of the most challenging environments on Earth.  We provide support for our Mission Operations Portfolio area which design, build, test, deploy, operate, and maintain a wide variety of mission critical platforms and systems for commercial and government customers.


As a CAD Designer you will be a part of a high-performing team where you design audiovisual systems and create detailed system designs and engineering drawings.  You will work closely with clients, project managers, and other team members to understand requirements and develop effective AV solutions.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Translate customer needs into detailed requirements for system integrated designs including system architectures for current operations and program growth, facility design, hardware selection, software selection and development, system integration, testing, operations and maintenance (O&M).
  • Generate system design variations and engineering drawings for selected designs using CAD software including AutoCAD and Visio.
  • Support system monitoring, integration, hardware and software installation, configuration, and upgrades of servers supporting audio-visual architecture.
  • Ensure technical viability and cost-effectiveness of mechanical packaging, electrical power, and electronic interconnect components, and the physical integration of all components into a complete system.
  • Evaluate product usability, affordability, functionality, security, and performance to assess suitability for integration into delivery system environments.
  • Ensure systems conform to architectural objectives.
  • Evaluate complex systems’ production readiness and supportability.
  • Perform complex system problem identification and resolution.
  • Use CAD and Visio to develop system design artifacts, signal flow diagrams, equipment elevations, BOM’s, and configuration guides.
  • Provide onsite support at local customer venues.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Current Counterintelligence Polygraph (CIP).
  • 3+ years of experience with Computer Aided Design (CAD).  (5+ years for level 4; 10+ years for level 5.)
  • Experience in audio visual multimedia applications and equipment.
  • Experience communicating with customer representatives, in both written and spoken form, regarding technical subjects.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher.
  • AutoCAD experience.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

Summary Pay Range:

Mid-Level (level 3): $68,000 – $92,000

Lead (level 4): $80,750 – $109,250

Lead (level 5): $96,900 – $131,100


Export Control Requirements: This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
