Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) seeks an EO/IR Engineer to serve as a Sensor/Seeker Engineer on our team in Saint Charles, Missouri (in the St. Louis region).  This team adds advanced capabilities to our portfolio offering our defense customers new to the world products and technology.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Advanced capabilities to our portfolio
  • Perform trade studies, modeling, simulation, and other forms of analysis to predict real-world Electro-Optical and Infrared Sensors (EO/IR) behavior, impacts on system performance, and to optimize design around complex requirements.
  • Communicate with guidance and navigation engineers for weapons and missile systems for integration into our products.
  • Develop sensor and seeker image processing and tracking algorithms for weapon navigation and guidance.
  • Create and coordinate EO/IR and Radar sensor laboratory and captive flight test plans, participate in test activities, review test data, and document findings to validate performance of designs to requirements.
  • Provide input to requirements management processes, specification creation, supplier technical management, task schedule planning and status, and other project management duties in support of on-going development programs.
  • Develop architectures to integrate systems and components into higher level systems and platforms.
  • Lead appropriate aspects of supplier and partner performance to ensure compliance to requirements.
  • Provide support to products throughout their lifecycle by developing root-cause analysis of anomalies and other engineering support.
  • Support project management by providing work statement, budget, schedule, and other required inputs and by reporting project status.
  • Proposal writing to support development of new business.

All work is performed on site in Saint Charles, MO.

Travel may be required up to 10% of the time; domestically or internationally depending on business needs.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship.  An interim or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
  • 1+ years of experience performing analysis on EO/IR systems.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Infrared sensor, gimbal control, or sensor image processing algorithm or software experience.
  • Experience with C/C++,MATLAB, Python.
  • Knowledge of Electro-Optical,Infrared Sensor, or Radar Sensor phenomenology and performance analysis.
  • Experience effectively communicating and collaborating on multi-discipline teams.
  • Master’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or Physics.

Typical Education & Experience:

Experienced (level 3): Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Lead (level 4): Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Relocation:

This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility. Note: Basic relocation will be offered for eligible internal candidates.

Shift Work:

This position is for 1st shift.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.  

Summary pay range:

Experienced (level 3): 97,750 – 132,250

Lead (level 4): 118,150 – 159,850.
