The Boeing Company is seeking a Senior Flight Test Instrumentation Engineer to support multi-program test activities in Saint Charles, MO.

The ideal candidate will need to have leadership, team building, analytical, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills with a commitment to customer satisfaction.  You will be responsible for leading teams to develop and operate flight instrumentation electro/mechanical design solutions of varying complexity in support of flight test. Also, you will perform functions as required to ensure flight instrumentation system readiness and data validity.

This position may require travel (short term or long-term DTA- Domestic Temporary Assignment) in support of testing to alternate test sites.

The candidate must be comfortable at coordinating with people from various technical disciplines, test sites, and vendors. Experience in aircraft instrumentation systems, on-aircraft ground tests, and flight test operations is desired.

This position is for 1st shift; however, variable shifts including, day, evening, nights and weekends may be required to support program objectives.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Leads others in the development of standard test methods and processes and applies advanced test technologies to create or improve test methods

  • Writes invention disclosures to protect Boeing Intellectual Property

  • Prepares R&D proposals and presents to internal management and external customer

  • Applies emerging industry technologies to develop test procedures

  • Reviews critical procedures to identify potential problems and resolve issues

  • Develops innovative metrology design techniques, processes, methods, or concepts

  • Oversees the integration of new design and manufacturing techniques into test hardware/system designs

  • Analyzes processes for potential improvements and recommends associated changes

  • Develops the standard policies for post-test activity. Resolves or oversees resolution of special test procedures

  • Works with the enterprise test and engineering group to standardize evaluation techniques

  • Formulates expectations for test data for new or unique tests

  • Trains and coaches others

  • Works under consultative direction

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science

  • This position has responsibility to build and monitor color coded safety analysis displays to support real time test missions. Candidates are required to be able to accurately differentiate between Red/Orange/Yellow/Green/Blue etc colors for safety of flight and safety of test displays during real time flight test missions

  • 9+ years of experience in an engineering role

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering

  • 1+ years of experience designing special test equipment for flight programs and supporting proposals

  • 1+ years of experience with precision test and measurement devices

  • 3+ years of experience with Earned Value Management (EVM) or something similar

  • 9+ years of experience with flight test, flight operations, or system test

  • 9+ years of experience in lab test, flight test, or similar test environment

Typical Education/Experience: 

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Summary pay range: $136,000 – $184,000
