The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) business unit in the Space, Intelligence & Weapons Systems (SI&WS) division has an exciting opportunity for an Experienced Software Engineer to join the GPS Block IIF STARSim team located at Schriever Space Force Base (SSFB) in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

This position is on the Global Positioning System (GPS) sustainment program at SSFB, about 15 miles east of Colorado Springs, Colorado.  GPS is a satellite-based radio navigation system owned by the United States government and operated by the United States Space Force.  GPS is the world's largest military satellite constellation and is the world's only global utility.  It provides position, navigation, and timing data to military and civilian users globally with countless applications and an unlimited number of users.

Boeing has over 45 years of history in GPS, including achieving full system capability in 1995. The current Boeing GPS sustainment team supports the U.S. Space Force by sustaining and monitoring the health and capabilities of the 12 GPS Block IIF satellites in the GPS constellation launched from 2010 to 2016.  The Boeing team also provides support to its U.S. Space Force customer with performance reporting and expertise on all aspects of the GPS system. Sustainment efforts will continue through the life of the Block IIF satellites, with a design life expectancy of 2028 and beyond.

Position Responsibilities: 

  • Executes test procedures and documents test results to ensure software system requirements are met.

  • Executes and documents software research and development projects. 

  • Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to review performance issues, identify root cause, recommend, and develop a solution.

  • Develop and maintain code within the existing codebase, ensuring alignment with established architecture and coding standards.

  • Works under general direction.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options. (Schriever SFB, Colorado)

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • 3+ years of experience in Software Engineering

  • 3+ years of experience with the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC)

  • 2+ years of experience in developing software unit tests and automated functional testing

  • 1+ years of experience using Agile Methodology

  • 1+ years of experience with GitLab/Jira

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science Degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or Computer Science.

  • 3+ years of experience programming in Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) languages (ADA, Java, etc.,).

  • 3+ years of experience with LabVIEW Software.

  • Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).

  • Knowledge of, and experience with portable software design, including handling binary endianness across 32-bit and 64-bit architectures (e.g., x86, x86_64).

  • Knowledge of, and experience with, space vehicle flight or simulation software

Please note that the salary information shown below is a general guideline only. Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

Summary pay range: $107,100 – $144,900
