Boeing Defense Space & Security has an exciting opportunity for an innovative, self-reliant, people friendly, and highly motivated Experienced Spacecraft Propulsion Engineer to join our Experimental Systems Group (ESG). ESG supports a variety of government customers spanning technology domains, and is an extremely fast-paced, responsive development environment delivering new capabilities to customers rapidly and affordably. The ESG portfolio consists of a range of platforms and technologies including the X-37B, the world’s first fully autonomous reusable spaceplane, which recently launched on its seventh and most ambitious flight yet.

This position reports to the ESG Integrated Design Engineering Senior Manager and would be located at Kennedy Space Center, FL, or Seal Beach, CA.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Perform propulsion system analyses to predict propulsion system performance, commodity usage, and control system parameters.

  • Perform Responsible Engineer (RE) role with a willingness to “own the hardware” for all phases of a propulsion component life cycle

  • Develop propulsion system and component specifications and test procedures

  • Work with design teams to integrate new components into flight system designs

  • Work with suppliers and spacecraft factory operations in the procurement and refurbishment of spacecraft propulsion components for upcoming missions

  • Provide engineering oversight of propulsion system integration and functional testing on the spacecraft

  • Work directly with manufacturing engineers, planners and technicians to plan and execute integration and test activity

  • Read and interpret heritage drawings and specs, and coordinate revisions and configuration changes with the design team as need to support future missions

  • Perform real time trouble shooting and issue resolution, including the disposition of non-conformances (NCs)

  • Support ground and flight operations during critical propulsion system procedures

This position requires an active U.S. Top Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active).

This position requires the ability to obtain access to a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) facility.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.

  • 3+ years of experience in a Propulsion Engineering role

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Strong communication skills to interface with different program and customer teams

Typical Education & Experience:
Experienced (level 3): Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Senior (Level 4): Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.  

Summary pay range - Experienced, Level 3: $93,500 - $164,450

Summary pay range - Senior, Level 4: $113,900 - $200,100
