The Boeing Company’s Information Technology & Data Analytics (IT&DA) organization is currently seeking a Cloud Modernization Technical Lead to join the Software Chapter team in either Seattle, WA; Kent, WA; North Charleston, SC or Renton, WA

As a Cloud Modernization Technical Lead, you'll drive initiatives in standards and governance, automation, and developer productivity. You'll empower developers to embrace modern tools and build cloud-native applications, ensuring efficient delivery of products to our business customers. Your efforts will enhance software development speed, quality, and security.

We're seeking an experienced software architect/engineer with a strong track record in large-scale software development and measurable improvements. You should have in-depth knowledge of toolchains, industry trends, and best practices for cloud-native applications. Join us in shaping the future of software development at Boeing!

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to software developers, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning

  • Collaborate with product teams to implement design system best practices and build strong DevSecOps (DSO) capabilities

  • Own Software Chapter OKRs (Objectives and Key Results) and ROI (Return on Investment) of prioritized software excellence initiatives

  • Identify and implement strategies to unlock developer productivity, including initiatives like co-pilot tool adoption

  • Contribute to the development and execution of short, mid, and long-term software excellence and automation roadmaps that align with the broader Boeing IT and Business strategy

  • Collaborate with IT division leaders to identify opportunities to drive best-in-class software practices, including developer tools, standards, software KPIs (Key Performance Indicators), and governance mechanisms

  • Establish a data-driven approach to baseline software chapter adoption and elevate its effectiveness over time

  • Drive community building across 2,000+ developers through knowledge-sharing initiatives like showcases and mentorship programs

  • Participate in talent development programs to upskill developers in emerging technologies and best practices

This position is hybrid. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options. This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future.

This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher

  • 10+ years of experience in developing large scale distributed software systems and cloud service deployment

  • 10+ years of experience with secure software development methodologies and security-first mindset

  • 5+ years of experience as an AWS developer or technologies related to Infrastructure as Code and Configuration as Code

  • 5+ years of experience with Information Technology architecture including cloud and data architecture in a large-scale, hybrid cloud and on-prem environment

  • 5+ years of experience as an Agile software development team lead

  • 5+ years of experience with modern software development methodologies

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience in minimizing developer toil within cloud environments through the implementation of Infrastructure as Code (IaC), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and platform engineering practice

  • Experience with one or more cloud providers (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP)

  • Experience with on-prem/edge cloud solutions (e.g. Red Hat OpenShift or VMware Tanzu)

  • Experience with zero trust technologies in the realm of application security, including but not limited to JSON Web Tokens, OAuth/OAuth2/SAML, X.509 certificates/mTLS, application reverse proxies, API security, cloud-native security solutions, and similar technologies

  • Experience with software quality frameworks and methodologies, including unit testing, integration testing, system testing, acceptance testing, contract testing (e.g. Pact), and end-to-end testing (e.g., Cucumber with Cypress)

  • Experience in building and managing a developer platform

  • Experience in implementing and utilizing software development metrics dashboards

  • Experience in software talent development and mentorship programs.

  • Experience with software development at a company(s) respected for high maturity in cloud modernization

  • Experience across companies and vendors with software development best practices

Typical Education & Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience, 18 years' related work experience, etc.).

Relocation:

Work Shift:

This position will be for first shift.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.  

Summary pay range: $130,050 – $188,600
