Role Overview

Boeing Defence UK (BDUK) is a subsidiary of the Boeing Company and currently employs over 1800 people in the UK. BDUK is responsible for delivering several exciting contracts to our UK Defence customers including E-7 AEW&C, P-8A Maritime Patrol Aircraft, C4ISTAR Services, Through Life Support for the Chinook and Apache Fleets, Logistic Information Services and Training Services.

Typically reporting to an Operations Lead, the Mechanical Supervisor role provides direct leadership, control, oversight and supervision of other technicians conducting 1st Signature tasks of the same trade as part of on-aircraft maintenance support to the UK Apache High Readiness Pool (HRP), located at the Main Operating Base (MOB) in Wattisham, Suffolk. 

In turn, this role may also undertake 1st Signature tasks and may undertake mentoring of Authority junior technicians (if required).  Previous experience in the supervision and control of maintenance tasks and staff, as well as experience maintaining the Apache Air System (AH-64E, AH-64D or Apache AH Mk1), are desired for this role.

Responsibilities:

  • Assembles, disassembles and/or modifies systems by changing, removing, replacing or upgrading aerospace vehicle components to correct failures or implement changes.

  • Oversees assembly, disassembly or overhaul. Configures aerospace vehicles and bench test equipment.

  • Troubleshoots complex pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical systems to isolate mechanical or electrical faults and repair faulty components.

  • Performs validation/verification testing of systems and components.

  • Documents procedures and established processes to ensure contractual and regulatory compliance (e.g., repairs, test results, applicable modifications and inspection results).

  • Inspects components and verifies repairs for flight worthiness requirements.

  • Oversees training.

  • Works under general direction

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Recognised relevant trade apprenticeship or trade experience equivalent.

  • Knowledge of general aircraft maintenance and processes applicable to the aviation environment (Human Factors, FOD control, tool control, health & safety & COSHH).

  • Proficient computer skills, use of the Microsoft Office suite. 

  • Be an effective team member displaying appropriate behaviours including Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.

Preferred Experience:

  • Previous experience in Rotor Craft Maintenance

  • Supervisory experience

Preferred Person Specification

  • The role requires an individual with supervisory skills.  When acting as 2nd Signature, a proven ability to plan, sequence, distribute and control technical work for a small group of equally-qualified technicians is essential. 
  • When acting as 1st Signature, the ability to act as a ‘team player’, maintaining output against schedule while ensuring safety and continuing airworthiness is required. 
  • A successful candidate must be capable of understanding and interpreting technical information and possess knowledge of MAA Regulatory Articles (RAs), MAA Regulatory Publications (MRP) Part 145, aviation Quality Assurance (QA) and Safety Management Systems (SMS) and the application of these requirements within their area of Responsibility, Authority and Accountability (RAA).
