The Opportunity

We are now recruiting for a casual role to support a key program function, Flight Scheduler / Operations Duty Officer, to help us deliver this premier Australian Defence Force aviation rotary wing training capability.

This role is based at HMAS Albatross, Nowra, in the Shoalhaven region and is for 1-2 days per week. The area is known for an abundance of beautiful landscapes, recreational activities and business services, with a family friendly and relaxed atmosphere only 2 & a half hour's drive to Sydney.

The Flight Scheduler / Duty Officer primary roles are managing the forward planning & executed daily flying program subject to the priorities set by the 723 Squadron Operations Officer (OPSO). The Flight Scheduler / Duty Officer is also the short notice change management coordinator, managing last minute changes to the program by liaising with stakeholders including OPSO, Joint Helicopter School (JHS) Training Officers, Maintenance and HMAS Albatross Airfield Co-ordination Centre.

Responsibilities

The Flight Scheduler / Duty Officer is part of a small Operations team consisting of BDA and Commonwealth personnel. The Operations team is headed by the Commonwealth Operations Officer (OPSO), and is responsible for the day to day planning and management of training including:

  • The management of the executed daily flying program, including changes and cancellations, (day crisis co-ordination),
  • Support non-flight training schedule,
  • Co-ordinate supporting assets (Multi-role Aviation Training Vessel, small boats)
  • Liaise with HMAS Albatross airfield co-ordination centre, Thales Synthetic Training Equipment, Information Communication Technology manager and JHS training instructors to manage availability of devices
  • Sign in/out Night Vision Devices in compliance with ITAR regulations
  • Hold Search and Rescue coverage
  • Ensure program data is entered correctly and provide data for reporting to the Commonwealth
  • Deliver night flying briefs to crew and students
  • Liaise with maintenance on aircraft availability and equipment required

Experience/ Qualifications

  • Experience in flight management systems such as FlightPro™ and/or Patriot Excalibur
  • Experience in Defence or Commercial flying schools with complex programing
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a diverse team and autonomously
  • Demonstrated ability to work within pre-set program timeframes
  • Flexibility to react to short notice requests from the OPSO
  • Applicants must be Australian Citizens to meet defence security requirements.

Physical Requirements

Boeing Defence Australia specific site positions will have physical requirements which are applicable. Physical requirements are outlined by the recruitment manager in consultation with the Environment Health & Safety Department. A formal assessment of the physical requirements will need to be completed through the Environment Health & Safety Department for specific roles which would then reflect into the position description.
