Boeing Commercial Airplanes is seeking a Heat Treat Batryperson A-Alum to join our team in Auburn, WA!

Employees in this position rack/un-rack production parts and raw material, operate/monitor furnaces and equipment that anneal, heat treat, stress relief, age, and quench aluminum of various alloys to prepare for fabrication before and after documented processes per Boeing BAC specification. Employment in this position also requires bending at the waist, lifting and carrying less than 10 pounds, handling, lifting 10-35 pounds, standing, walking, contact with metals, exposure to extreme heat, exposure to noise and atmospheric conditions, and the use of personal safety gear for face, eyes, hand/arm, ears and feet. Perform monitoring of heat treat ovens checking processes (e.g., proper temperature, recording charts and control panel), of prior shift, as required

Position Responsibilities:

  • Visually inspect work area to determine what needs to be done, start with priority work first and or first in first out.
  • Obtain/review work order (W/O) to determine what process production parts or raw material are to be worked (e.g., annealing, heat treat and aged), as required.
  • Obtain and group work (W/O) by selecting compatible material and type to be heat treated together per BAC 5602 specification, as required.
  • Screen work order to ensure job requires heat treat and that correct I D stamp, heat lot stamp and prior operations have been bugged off, as required.
  • Consult with supervision and other sources (e.g., planning, customer and inspection), to resolve problems, as required. Count/tag parts per W/O and (BAC) specifications, as required.
  •  Operate and work from scissor lift to access work area, as required.
  • Perform correct loading/racking techniques to ensure uniform heating, minimize warpage and tie down parts using wire and hand dikes to secure parts, as required.
  • Call for in house inspection to ensure that parts have been grouped/racked correctly per Boeing (BAC) specifications, as required.
  • Perform/lift loaded parts rack onto load rack platform with overhead crane, as required.
  • Operate control panel to adjust heat treat oven to proper temperature per specification, then load parts rack into oven after correct temperature has been reached, as required.
  • Record pertinent information on chart recorder (e.g., correct load, todays date, material, clock/oven number and correct time in), start chart recorder per BAC 5602, as required.
  • After all processes have been completed call for in house inspection, as required.
  • Perform/ monitor ovens periodically to ensure ovens are functioning properly, as required.
  • Perform correct documentation on work orders (e.g., heat treat/alloy and personal I D stamp), as required.
  • Perform documentation of logbook with traceable information (e.g., oven/part number, ERP/load number, alloy and time in and time out), as required.
  • Select correct freezer that heat-treated parts are going to be loaded into and tag (W/O) with freezer I. D. tags, as required.
  • Perform quenching/rinsing of heat treat parts/raw material per BAC specification, as required.
  • After the completion of heat-treat operation, lift rack out of rinse tank with overhead crane and call for in house inspection as required.
  • Perform the unloading of heat treat rack and Load production parts/raw material in correct freezer with stacker in a timely manner, as required.
  • Handle and dispose of hazardous material in an approved manner, as required. Maintain personal & tool certifications, as required.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Basic computer skills
  • Experience using basic math (e.g. addition, subtraction, multiplication and division)
  • Fluent in both verbal and written English
  • Able to lift, push and pull up to 35 pounds frequently within an 8 hour shift

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Able to work 2nd shift & extended hours with short notice if needed to cover absences or adjoining shifts.

Typical Education:

High school graduate or GED preferred.

Relocation:

This position is located in a location that does not offer relocation.  Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.

Shift:

This position is for 1st, or 2nd shift. Must be willing to work either shift.

  • This is an hourly position governed by the IAM Collective Bargaining agreement.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.  

Summary pay range: $21.00 - $45.22 an hour.
