Boeing Commercial Airplanes has an exciting opportunity for Parts Forming C - Mechanic to join our team in Auburn, WA.

Employees in this position Layout own work, compute material stretchout determine sequence of own operations and completely and independently setup, operate, adjust, etc., all types and sizes of power brakes to properly form sheet metals, parts, tools, etc, all types of punch and/or hydraulic presses-using cold or hot dies such as compound, progressive and multiple-action to form, blank, flange, joggle, broach and coin parts.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Utilize a variety of power equipment and equipment where established methods and predetermined setup has been identified.
  • Perform necessary selection, operate and adjust manually to prove control media or when control media is inadequate or not available.
  • Perform tool tryouts on contract tools and check own setup and work to be certain that finished forming meets quality requirements and specifications.
  • Perform straightening of sheet metals, parts, materials, etc.
  • Adjust brakes for proper machine strike.
  • Make necessary tools and gauges for power brakes.
  • Detect and determine reasons for the cracking, splitting, wrinkling, etc., of parts, materials, tools, etc., using brake standards, etc., and recommend to supervision the changes in tools, materials used, etc., necessary to prevent such imperfections.
  • For assigned work area or punch press area tool crib follow established shop procedures to receive, record, store, check, ship, mark, clean, grease, tag, release, expedite, issue, etc., punch press tools, dies, fixtures, accessories, etc.
  • Fabricate parts requiring the use of deep draw dies, reverse draw dies, etc.
  • May set up presses and safety guards for lower graded punch press operators.
  • Perform own layout and compute material stretchout as required.
  • Use hand and power tools, checking fixtures and precision measuring instruments necessary to accomplish assigned work.
  • When tools are worn or become unusable, notify tool crib attendant so that tools may be routed for repair or replacement.
  • Perform hot forming as required. Rack and unrack parts prior to and after cutting operation.
  • Load, unload and operate automated finish machine to deburr and descale parts.
  • Work from drawings, work orders, written and verbal instruction to determine sequence of press operations.
  • Select and secure proper dies, pressure pads, fixtures, safety guards, accessories, etc., necessary to accomplish any given work assignment.
  • Report damaged or faulty equipment. Perform limited assembly and subassembly as required.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • 1+ years of experience using hand tools and/or hand-held power tools

  • 1+ years of experience working with precision measuring tools

  • Experience reading engineering blueprints/drawings

  • Basic computer skills

  • Fluent in both verbal and written English

  • Experience using basic math (e.g. addition, subtraction, multiplication and division)

Typical Education:

High school graduate or GED preferred.

Relocation:

This position is located in a location that does not offer relocation.  Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.

Shift:

This position is for 2nd shift.

Other Relevant Information & Requirements:

  • This is an hourly position governed by the IAM Collective Bargaining agreement.

  • Current Boeing employees working in Puget Sound and Portland must submit an Employee Request Transfer (ERT) to be considered in the eligible candidate pool.

Summary pay range: $ 19.00 - $42.73
