The Opportunity

We are seeking an senior engineering leader to work in a dynamic organisation; leading a multi-disciplinary engineering team focused on the design, development, production and assembly of deployable communications hardware products.

BCS is a next generation networking product that is the centerpiece for multiple projects and campaigns. The BCS combines both developmental and off the shelf hardware and software to provide world leading communications capability for ADF personnel. It can be rapidly deployed from anywhere, and its modular design provides a flexible, scalable solution that can be customized for various mission needs.

Our engineering leaders must hold themselves and their engineering teams accountable for the activities required to:

  • Ensure the safety of our products & services.
  • Provide the functions & performance required of our products & services.
  • Ensure the total cost of our products & services represent value for money to our customers.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable to the program manager for the technical and project planning of the IPT engineering products & services required to meet program objectives including multiple concurrent projects, customers and contracts.
  • Accountable to the program manager for the execution of plans to deliver the IPT engineering products & services required to meet program objectives.
  • Accountable for ensuring the safety and quality of the IPT engineering products & services.
  • Responsible for contributing to program strategy development and campaigns.
  • Accountable for the IPT performance (people, processes & tools) required to meet both short- and long-range program plans.
  • Accountable to the business unit engineering manager to balance priorities across the program as well as the business unit and engineering function to deliver the ‘best for Boeing'.
  • Accountable to the business unit engineering manager for management of engineering burden against directly funded program activities.
  • Responsible for the staffing of the IPT activities and work statements required by the program contracts and campaigns.
  • Responsible for the coordinating and prioritization of engineering staff spanning the IPT.
  • Responsible for the consistent recording and reporting of key program IPT performance metrics as set by both the program manager and business unit engineering manager.
  • Accountable for engineering talent identification and career development within the IPT, including the management of applicable indirect training and travel budget.
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining a diverse and inclusive engineering work environment across the IPT, with the clear expectation to model Boeing Seek, Speak and Listen behaviors.

Experience/Qualifications

Essential:

  • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline, Information Technology related fields or equivalent industry experience.
  • Excellent communicator who can engage and lead a diverse team.
  • Experience leading the successful execution of large or complex engineering development projects.
  • Applicants must be Australian Citizens to meet defence security requirements.

Desirable:

  • Experience on BCS projects and campaigns.
  • Engineering or technical degree meeting the chartered requirements of Engineers Australia.

This is a senior leadership role and while there some flexibility in how to structure your working arrangement (work from home vs at the office), the expectation is the role is based in our Brisbane office and/or Wacol production facility where the majority of the BCS Program team is based.

The role will require periodic travel to key Boeing and customer sites.
