The Flight Deck Engineering team has an opening for a first level manager for Flight Deck Crew Operations. The Crew Operations team is responsible for the pilot interface for Boeing Commercial Airplanes. The team is made up of engineers, human factors specialists, and pilots who design, validate, test, and certify all aspects of the flight crew interface. This includes controls, displays, procedures, alerting, and the physical interfaces in the flight deck. Our expertise is how the pilots operate the airplane, and what they need to be safe and efficient in executing the mission. We are a team who is passionate about aviation, operations, and are dedicated to designing crew interfaces utilizing Human Factors best practices for the benefit of flight crews all over the world.  This manager’s team could support current production programs, development programs, or future product studies.

Position Responsibilities:       

  • Interfacing with regulators, suppliers, pilots, customer airlines, and industry relations in support of  program objectives.

  • Overseeing development/design work related to the crew interfaces which includes controls, display formats, procedures, and ergonomic/human factors analysis of the pilot-machine interface.

  • Ensuring the integration of Human Factors principles into Boeing designs and procedures.

  • EICAS message review process including message review and approval

  • Design, build, integration and test of the Engineering Flight Deck simulator.

  • Overseeing test schedule, execution, and PR troubleshooting/resolution in the Labs.

  • Certification compliance and regulator engagement on flight deck regulations, developing and approving compliance plans, issue papers, and overseeing execution of these tasks with the FAA and foreign certification agencies.

  • Overseeing creation of flight deck owned flight test plans, and procedures.

  • Managing problem reports (PRs) and flight squawks throughout flight test in support of certification and entry into service.

  • Tracking and managing budget and schedule commitments with program leadership.

  • Eliminating/mitigating roadblocks and risks both technical and program management related.

  • Advocating for the chief program/technical pilot with the program.

  • Develop, grow, and mentor the team.

  • Attract, hire and retain talent in support of the Flight Deck skill teams.

  • Manage budget and schedule commitments across multiple programs supported by the Flight Deck Engineering.

  • Help prioritize work and eliminate roadblocks for the team.

  • Provide status and communicate risks, issues, and roadblocks to leadership.

  • Work to eliminate/mitigate roadblocks and risks both technical and program management related across the entire team's SOW.

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelors of Science degree or higher from an accredited course of study in engineering, human factors, computer science, mathematics, physics.

  • 3+ years of experience in an engineering or human factors design environment.

  • 1+ years of experience leading or managing a project or team

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):                                                

  • Strong desire to mentor, develop and grow team members.

  • Experience as a pilot preferred but not required.

  • Ability to manage conflicting priorities.

  • Interest in understanding and then guiding the integration of new technologies into airplane designs.

  • Experience interacting with and presenting externally, and to senior management.

Please note that the salary information shown below is a general guideline only.  Salaries are based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. 

Summary pay range:                 122,000 – 217,000
