Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) is seeking an Inspector Material Tester B to join our team in Everett, WA. 

Inspectors in this position set-up and operate a variety of mechanical test equipment to perform destructive and/or physical tests. Through lot and/or batch testing, inspections are performed to determine hardness, tensile strength, compression strength and yield strengths of material and/or parts. Inspectors ensure Boeing drawing and specification requirements are met or exceeded on raw material, detail parts and assemblies before they are used on airplanes.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Work independently to plan, check, set-up and operate a variety of test equipment to perform physical tests of any raw materials and parts to determine such properties as hardness, tensile strength, compression strength, yield strength and torque.
  • Perform tests that require the preparation and measurement of test specimens, the set up and operation of all types of physical test apparatus and equipment, the recording of test data, the calculating of areas and unit stresses, and the plotting of stress strain curves.
  • Adapt available equipment to various tests and design and improvise special setups. Troubleshoot and recommend resolution of test-related problems.
  • Coordinate with engineering in resolution of defect analysis to help determine root cause and appropriate corrective action.
  • Initiate and document any nonconforming materials, hardware, software, tools, parts, assemblies, or portions thereof, according to specifications, processes, and procedures.
  • Perform audit/ surveillance of all manufacturing and quality assurance processes, according to specifications, processes, and procedures.
  • Support the production and modification of airplanes and associated equipment established per contractual agreement.
  • Interface with internal/external organizations (e.g., production, engineering, planning, customer) on process or job-related issues, as required.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • 3+ years experience reading and interpreting drawings and blueprints
  • 3+ years experience using precision measurement equipment
  • 3+ years experience using computers and learning new computer systems
  • Ability to walk constantly throughout the workday; stand 6-8 hours per day; climb or work from stairs/steps up to 8 hours per day; climb ladders; bend and twist frequently up to six hours per day; squat and kneel

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 3+ years experience in inspection and inspection techniques
  • 3+ years experience in mechanical testing

Typical Education:

High school graduate or GED preferred.

Relocation:

This position does not offer relocation.  Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.

Shift:

This position is for 1st shift.

Summary pay range: $22.00 - $46.27
