Boeing Commercial Airplanes is seeking a Mid-Career(Level-3) or Senior (Level-4) Icing Aerodynamics Engineer to support the BCAFlight Sciences Configuration Aerodynamicsteam.  This position is located in Everett, Washington. The ideal candidate will be highly proficient in aerodynamics, and have industry experience with and deep understanding of fundamental principles surrounding ice accretion, icing aerodynamics, ice testing, and icing regulations and certification.

The Configuration Aerodynamics team has a growing demand for engineering talent to support certification programs and product development activities aligned with new and derivative airplanes. Engineers act in the design and analysis of airplanes ensuring that performance and safety requirements are met. Our team is responsible for definition of airplane features, prediction of flight vehicle characteristics, and test verification utilizing wind tunnel test, ground test, and flight tests methods.

Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including; Mid – Level and Senior Icing Aerodynamics Engineers

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

Level 3 Position Responsibilities:

  • Performs the design and analysis of aerodynamic/aerothermodynamic flight vehicles to ensure that 14 CFR Part 25/CS-25 certification and marketing requirements are met.
  • Performs Icing Aerodynamics analysis.
  • Predicts ice shapes for various flight conditions.
  • Assesses aerodynamic impact of ice shapes on air vehicle performance.
  • Conducts, coordinates and/or develops test requirements to meet test objectives.
  • Supports and leads wind tunnel testing, ground testing, and flight testing at local and remote facilities.
  • Executes certification and qualification processes of the aerodynamic/aerothermal characteristics of flight vehicles.
  • Works under general supervision.

Level 4 Position Responsibilities:

  • Leads, plans and performs the design and analysis of aerodynamic/aerothermodynamic flight vehicles to ensure that 14 CFR Part 25/CS-25 certification and marketing requirements are met.
  • Leads Icing Aerodynamics analysis.
  • Leads the prediction of ice shapes for various flight conditions.
  • Leads assessment of aerodynamic impact of ice shapes on air vehicle performance.
  • Plans, conducts, coordinates and/or develops test requirements to meet test objectives.
  • Leads wind tunnel testing, ground testing, and flight testing at local and remote facilities.
  • Develops Boeing responses to proposed regulations that impact cost, performance, producibility, maintainability, and safety.
  • Trains and coaches others.
  • Works under minimal direction.

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in Aeronautical/Aerospace/Astronautical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Understanding of 14 CFR Part 25/CS-25 certification processes and procedures
  • Experience with artificial or natural ice testing
  • Experience developing model-based tools for Engineering application
  • Experience utilizing computational fluid dynamics tools
  • Experience with airplane-level requirements development
  • Fundamental understanding of convective heat and mass transfer and compressible flow physics.
  • Familiarity or proficiency with Icing analysis tools, including LEWICE, LEWICE3D, GlennICE, or FENSAP-ICE.
  • Experience with airplane development, wind tunnel testing, or configuration development studies
  • Experience participating in multi-disciplinary teams to achieve challenging integration goals
  • 3 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Typical Education/Experience:

Mid – Level (Level 3)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Senior (Level 4)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. 

Summary pay range Mid- Level: $100,300 - $135,700

Summary pay range Senior: $121,550 - $164,450
