The Boeing Research & Technology (BR&T) Mission Systems & Autonomy (MS&A) software organization is seeking an Autonomy Software Manager in Hazelwood, MO or Huntington Beach, CA.

The selected candidate will lead a very talented software team developing software engineering to conduct research and development to address the growing need for autonomous capabilities across the Enterprise.  The Autonomy organization seeks to develop and deliver common capabilities – autonomy development infrastructure, autonomous capabilities, and component functions for autonomy, to a range of programs, ranging including Wisk, MQ-25, MQ-28, Tanker, Chinook, BCA Future Product Study, XLUUV, Scan Eagle, etc. 

The software manager will work closely with the programs and partners to identify needs and develop requirements to address the needs. The software manager will be responsible for all software execution.

Our software products help solve Boeing's most challenging problems across Commercial Airplanes, Defense Space & Security, and Global Services businesses. Projects can range from new cyber security solutions for the revolutionary 787 Dreamliner to innovative aircraft, creating virtual avionics development test environments across several commercial, defense, satellite, and space platforms, satellite payload technologies, and autonomy.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Leads a team performing software engineering and technical activities in the area of Detect and Avoid, Contingency Management, and Collaborative Autonomy

  • Develops and executes project and process plans across multiple program functions

  • Implementing software processes and Ensuring program documentation accurately reflects software engineering processes

  • Responsible for software technical baseline, Build Plan and software program artifacts are current and complete

  • Coordinate activities across autonomy and business partners

  • Running Scrum of Scrums, work with development teams to implement agile and run team scrums

  • Partner with Autonomy organization and project leads on project execution and software staffing needs

  • Develops and maintains relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, program partners, and direct reports

  • Develops and maintains relationships and partnerships with peers, business partners, customers, and other stakeholders including supplier engagement and management

  • Acquires resources for projects and processes and provides oversight and approval of technical approaches in alignment with organizational strategy

  • Demonstrate a commitment to the mission and motivation to combine the team’s energy and expertise to achieve a common objective

  • Understands the dynamics of effective teamwork in order to attain higher levels of performance

  • Demonstrates the ability to work as a member of a team

This position is onsite. This means that the selected candidate will be required to perform onsite at one of the listed location options. This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. A final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science

  • 5+ years of experience in software development

  • 3+ years of experience in a leadership position

  • 2+ years of experience with agile software development

  • 2+ years of experience in autonomy

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience in software architecture, simulation, object detection, map infrastructure, situational awareness, and state estimation

  • Experience with robotics

  • Experience working as part of a modern software development environment and/or CI/CD pipeline

  • Experience with real-time embedded multiprocessor programs and/or user interface development programs

  • Experience working with systems engineers and integrating large-scale software systems

  • Familiarity with satellite operations and space environment preferred

  • Experience with satellite communication protocols

  • Experience in system-level hardware/software design

  • Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS), containerization, and Machine Learning (ML) / AI

  • Experience in JavaScript, Python, and C++

Summary pay range: 132,600 – 179,400 / Hazelwood, MO

Summary pay range: 141,950 – 192,050 / Huntington Beach, CA
