The Boeing Company is seeking a Cyber and Network Software Manager to join the Mission Systems & Autonomy Software organization. The organization develops software capabilities for the research and development of technologies across a diverse portfolio in Boeing Research & Technology (BR&T).  This position will be located in Huntington Beach, CA or Hazelwood, MO.

This role is for a dynamic, innovative, customer-focused leader responsible for a team of software engineers executing on Cybersecurity & Network Technology projects and programs. Day-to-day activities include but are not limited to project management, engineering skill management, and career development activities.

The ideal candidate will have a background in Cybersecurity & Network Technology software domains. The candidate will work closely with BR&T portfolio managers and Business unit customers to understand technology needs, and will be responsible for the software development to address the technology needs.

The selected candidate will lead, develop, and motivate a talented, distributed team.  People development is a key element of this job - the candidate will be responsible for staffing growth, for nurturing employees and for providing employees with development opportunities.  He or she will also be executing and enforcing SW standard practices in accordance with the SW enterprise organization.  The candidate will also be responsible for developing and executing integrated tech plans, policies and procedures, strong operational skills are a plus.

As part of Boeing Research & Technology's (BR&T) Mission Systems & Autonomy (MS&A) software capability, our software engineers use their expertise to dream up next-generation software capabilities for amazing aerospace, satellite, and autonomy platforms. We develop cutting edge sensors and mission systems, high bandwidth communication systems, large-scale simulation systems, space and satellite systems, avionics virtual machines as part of high fidelity digital twins that will improve the future of software development, airplane and flight controls, cyber security solutions, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and much more. Our products help solve Boeing's most challenging problems across Commercial Airplanes, Defense Space & Security, and Global Services businesses.

Projects can range from new cyber security solutions for the revolutionary 787 Dreamliner to innovative aircraft, creating virtual avionics development test environments across several commercial, defense, satellite, and space platforms, satellite payload technologies, and autonomy.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage a diverse software team performing engineering and technical activities for embedded/real-time and mission applications

  • Proactively manage software staffing needs; create a healthy talent and skill pipeline to meet project resource timelines

  • Talent management, skill and career development of ~20 software engineers; tracking and coordination of employee development plans

  • Coordinate with project stakeholders and facilitate cross-collaboration with enterprise business units, such as BDS, BCA, BGS, BR&T and BT&E project leadership

  • Assist the software engineering organization with implementing best practices and lessons learned on projects

  • Provide execution oversight of software development efforts for designated projects/programs/initiatives to ensure technical integrity and engineering excellence

  • Establish and maintain a culture of collaboration and innovation within the research and development team.

  • Work and collaborate with other technology domain leaders to build value and innovation.

  • Manage and support team's software laboratory environment and ensure synchronization with Boeing's world class tools and processes to achieve industry leading innovation and performance

  • Oversee and contribute to proposal technical content

  • Responsible for the technical integrity of software developed on projects and programs

This position is onsite. This means that the selected candidate will be required to perform onsite at one of the listed location options. This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. A final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science

  • 5+ years of experience with full software development life cycle.

  • 3+ years of experience leading or managing projects and/or teams.

  • 1+ years of experience with Agile software development.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Ability to obtain a security clearance up to TS/SCI

  • Held an engineering management and/or lead position.

  • Experience with cybersecurity principles and practices

  • Experience with network protocol software development

  • Experience with agile software development practices

  • Experience with DevSecOps / Continuous Integration (CI)

  • Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS), containerization, and Machine Learning (ML) / AI

  • Experience in JavaScript, Python, and C++

Summary pay range: 132,600 – 179,400 / Hazelwood, MO

Summary pay range: 141,950 – 192,050 / Huntington Beach, CA
