Boeing Defense & Space (BDS) is looking for Optical Testing Technicians to join our team in Kent, WA.

Join our dynamic Optical Engineering Test Team, where your skills and passion for optical sciences will be put to use in supporting the development, testing, and maintenance of cutting-edge optical systems and equipment. As a skilled and detail-oriented individual, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and functionality of our optical systems and testing.

Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including; Mid-Level and Senior Level Optical Testing Technicians.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Apply your knowledge of optical sciences to assist in the assembly, calibration, and testing of optical systems and components

  • Conduct measurements and experiments using optical test equipment, such as power meters, and oscilloscopes, to evaluate the performance and characteristics of optical devices

  • Collaborate with engineers and scientists to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to optical systems, providing hands-on support and recommendations for improvements

  • Assist in the documentation of experimental procedures, test results, and findings, ensuring accuracy and traceability of data

  • Maintain and calibrate optical equipment and instruments to ensure their proper functioning and accuracy

  • Support the design and implementation of optical experiments, including the setup and alignment of optical components

  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in optical sciences and technologies, and contribute to the continuous improvement of testing methodologies and procedures

  • Assist in the procurement and inventory management of optical components and materials

  • Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines while working with optical systems and equipment

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires an active U.S. Top Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)

This position requires ability to obtain program access, for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship only.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Experience working hands on with mechanical and optical systems

  • Experience with optical system architecture and requirements development, test and verification

  • Experience developing laboratory documentation, test procedures, and data collection protocols

  • Proficient utilizing the Microsoft Office Suite

  • Experience in a role that required interpersonal skills in a teaming environment where collaboration and communication are critical to the functioning of the team

  • Confident in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities, and able to multi-task and manage expectations

  • Experience with Laser safety protocols

  • Willing to work in a Lab environment with mechanical tools and equipment

  • Willing to work 1st or 2nd shift on a rotational basis, as needed

  • Able to travel 10% of the time

  • (Level 4) 3 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • (Level 5) 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Typical Education/Experience: 

Experienced (Level 3)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced education (e.g. Associate) and typically 3 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g.  Bachelor+1 years' related work experience, 5 years' related work experience, etc.).

Senior (Level 4)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced education (e.g. Associate) and typically 6 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g.  Bachelor+4 years' related work experience, 8 years' related work experience, etc.).

Senior (Level 5)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced education (e.g. Associate) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g.  Bachelor+7 years' related work experience, 11 years' related work experience, etc.).

Relocation:

This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. 

Summary pay range (experienced, level 3): 68,000 – 92,000

Summary pay range (senior, level 4): 80,750 – 109,250

Summary pay range (senior, level 5): 96,900 – 131,100
